Postby blueyees » Thu Apr 09, 2009 2:03 pm

see..i was wondering if the K&N Induction kits for the 1.6 16v fitted the 1.4 16v...as it only a slight upgrade..Not too sure about that though.

all you need to do is measure the size of the throttle body and get one to fit that. I would never recommend one though, they are heatsoak central. Far better of getting a replacement panel filter.

you do know by putting an air filter kit on your car your really just putting strain on the engine get an uprated panel filter much better without the hassle of the engine problems.

you only really get the hassel if you don't fiddle about with the map on the ECU, because of the induction kit, the engine is getting more air but the injectors are pushing in the same amount as before so the Fuel to air ratio is off set, causing problems in the engine.

also any power gains on any car add more strain to the engine.

ive got a Kia Cee'd 1.6 CRDi 90BHP standard, mapped to 140, with a manifold and exhaust comming too, so hopefully upwards of 160bhp from a 1.6

very much doubt you will get 20bhp from an exhaust and manifold, show me dyno results and i will gladly eat my words tho, ha ha

if your just intrested in the noise, you can easily make an induction kit, me and a mate made one for his 1.4 106 quicksilver, made from a radiator pipe from a tractor or something massive, to conect pipework to throttle body, got an exhaust place to make a bent bit of stainless pipe to move the filter from the back of the engine to the front and bought a massive universal air filter from somewhere, looked and sounded ace, moddifed it after a bit by making a custom heat shield to wrap around it, not sure if it actually did anything either but looked good when the bonnet was open, and gave a nice induction roar.

Someone with a 225 tested the gains from an induction kit, compared to the standard air box and they found that it lost bhp with the induction kit on, so a replacement pannel filter is what the majority of people do.

But with the 1.4 not being a fast car if you were just bothered about making it sound nice i cant see a problem. just buy a universal one and make it fit or as said check the dia of the throttle bodies to the 1.6 and get that. just if you do put an induction kit on try and get as much cold air to the filter as possible, via cold air feeds, heat shields etc.

Green do a range of 1.4 air filters/induction kits matey

Follow This Linky

The top 4 on the list are for the 1.4.

K&N only seem to do a replacement panel filter, the part number is 33-2194.

Enjoy
