Scratched Interior Handles

Postby synchro » Sat Mar 05, 2011 1:40 pm

My interior handles were annoying me as they are scratched and spoil the rest of the interior
which is great. I was going to remove them and paint them, but thought it would be tricky
to match the creamy colour. So I thought I'd try some 3M carbon film after seeing some clips
on you-tube. Only took half an hour per side. Let me know what you think of the results.
I think they're much smarter!

That looks really good. I have the same problem in mine. Could you please post the link to the youtube video on how to do that.
Thanks

No specific clips for a Megane, but search for 3M di-noc and you can see examples
of the film being applied. I might try the front badge a bit later.

That's a top idea. If you do put a pic up here for us to see it

I did the front badge:

Really need to remove it to do a better job, but it looks ok. I might do the rear too.
Anyone know how to remove the rear badge?

Probably call it a day then on the carbon film. Less is more!

I've got a sheet of that stuff left over, I might have a go at the same.. my interior is grey leather, so it won't show as much, but will tidy it up somewhat.

Now I've done the rear badge:

I wonder if I should paint the Megane letters black to match?

I reckon painting it could get messy. Could u not wrap them in the film? I'm still waiting to get my car back to do mine

how do all these parts come off to wrap?

Interior handles? exterior diamond badges? gear stick surround?

Anyone?

Stupid idea from Renault, make a black plastic grab handle then paint it beige! and how long will that last, considering the amount of beige interiors thay have on the megs would it have really been that expensive to cast the whole handle in beige plastic, opposded to casting in black plastic then colouring it as well, again with them it is that small issue with detail that they always seem to fail on, I have found it worse on the Meg 2 you would almost say they have an attitude of "oh that 'l do" you know issues with window motors at the bottom of the regulator acting as a drip rail, HUDs with stuck on ribbon cables ontop of the dash where they bake and the ribbon cable is folded in such a manor that all the presure of the ben is on the glue, front deat belts can't be reached if you push your seat forward (shorter people) Handbrake throttle leaver designed to fail via a small screw in a plastic fixing, once this screw works its way out or the platic hole enlarges through hand brake operation, the hand brake is then rendered "in op"
I think the list must be endless. No doubt not much larger than other makes now, seems to be the way they are made now, I was passed yesterday by two TR6,s an old convertable jag, and a very old MG, my first thought was nice! then bet my car lasts nowhere near as long as them... :-(

did u need to remove the door card to take the handle out?

As I realise when I sprayed the outer parts, the inside bit had 3 screws screwed in facing outwards

the handles you just pull them as if you were opening the door, once the handle is pulled back, slide it towards the rear and it clips off..

My drivers come off by accident all the time. Had it repplaced twice but it still does it, so clipping it back on is a daily process
