1.5dci egr...yeah, i know!

Postby callyspoy » Mon Jul 11, 2016 2:21 pm

Hi folks,
My 2005 1.5dci Megane has a lumpy idle, not always, but quite often. If you increase revs to 1000, it disappears.

Before i start weeping that it may be DMF, I would like to check out the egr.
Can you confirm that this is the egr, top centre in the picture please.

I am due yo do an oil change, so fancy doing both at the same time.

Many thanks
Callum

I've a 1.9dci so cant say....but does look correct. Suggest checking the manuals linked to above.

My DMF is on the way out - confirmed when the timing belt was changed where a slight 'give' in the springs was note by the mechanic. This doesn't cause me rough idle (blocked EGR valve did) but it is noticeable when accelerating between about 1000 and 2000. You can feel a wobble which implies misfiring. Mechanic suggested waiting until it's completely gone as this can take a long time, maybe years!, and by then the car probably will not be worth spending money on...it's already 12 years old with 134k.

He quoted £500 to change DMF and clutch BTW.

Thanka for the info.
Yes clutch feels fine and no wobble or anything once off idle, it's only done 48000, so a lot of stop start, so i expect some blocking of bits n bobs!
I'll have a look at the egr this weekend then, thanks again.

Is this the 106bhp engine? If it is, could you post up a few pictures or a small write-up on how it's removed. The set up on the 106bhp seems to be different to the 'how-to' on here and I've been lead to believe you have to remove the firewall for proper access.

Finally had a chance to do this today.
Easy peasy on my wee 1.5! Three bolts, egr out. It was pretty coked up in there, not sure if it was stickung, but it is clean now.
Turns out my main worries were perhaps O.T.T.
My rattley engine was exhaust hitting heat shield! The clicking steering was sorted by tightening the bolts holding the rack to subframe.

So a great Meg day, for a change!

I had a Fiat Punto for years. never needed to do an oil-change, as it leaked so much, it was like a continuous oil-change.. :)

Ha, fortunately the Meg seems to retain it's oil, but it certainly is still due a change. I have the filter and oil, have done for 4 months. But my daughter was born nearly 4 months ago so time on car is a bit short.

DMF is th dual mass flywheel. A scary contraption that i have zero interest in replacing myself if i can help it!
