dipstick

Postby PHAT C » Mon Mar 28, 2011 7:05 pm

Hi, new to site found it when looking for parts :) just bought my megane 54 reg 1.5 dci
just need to ask i think my dipstick is broken, when i wipe it and check the oil there's nothing on the stick but dashboard shows oil level ok, the dipstick is smooth all the way to the end, is there supposed to be a bit at the bottom with marls on it?
and if it's broken where can i get one other than main dealer as they want too much :(
thanks peeps
Colin

We've been here before with this. It is broken, and the reason is shite design.

no idea ive only just bought the car, looks like it's only missing a little bit so my guess would be it's now in the sump :(

Yep - and you will have to remove the sump to get at it. The good news is that the strainer in the pan will prevent it causing any harm (probably).

If you try to get another dipstick in, you might find the broken section will prevent it being inserted. I would love to know how you get on. Good luck.
