Steering Lock

Hi I previously stated on here that my steering lock will not engage for some reason. Just randomly happaned one day when i got back to the car. I was wondering if anyone else has had this? If so how was it fixed? Another question is; does anyone know if I could recode an already coded steering lock from another car into my car?

Dont raise any hopes of an all inclusive answer as Im no grease monkey, but my steering lock also failed to engage over a year ago and after checking this site I thanked my lucky stars it failed in the off position..............when you discover how much it costs to replace this unit when it is stuck on you will be thanking your lucky stars also. Hey as I said steering lock hasn't engaged for over a year even though it sounds as if it has or wants to but still starts, drives beautifully ( note to self.. "touch wood"), as for fear of theft.....come on its a renault.

Hey just noted one user on page 4 or 5 who had success with his failed steering lock unit after buying on ebay and fitting himself, you might wnt to check it out.

yes you can recode a steering lock
there are places that will replace the existing code on the lock and as soon as it is plugged into your car its then coded to your car

Thank you both for your replies. Do you know anywhere that would recode it or the process to recode I have had the steering lock out and seems ok but can't be too sure I'm waiting to get my multimeter back to test power to the unit before I find a new/used one.

Apparently the new mot rules check the operation of the steering lock so I'll have to get mine fixed !
