Here we Go! MOT time again

Postby ChrisM » Tue Feb 22, 2011 9:45 am

Yep that time of the year again, hopefully a pass this year, last years fail started a waterfall of problems one after another, I don't think I can cope with another year of repairing it every other weekend along with the expense, everything starts at £30 and works up from there.

So fingers Crossed! :-)

WOW it past!!!!
the only car we own that you just know will pass is my Wifes Meg 1 Coupe, every year with out a glitch at 12 years old.

at least the CC can now sit on the drive next to it without feeling disgraced!

For another year anyway. or until it breaks again!

Mine has just passed as well, with a couple of advisories on tyres and "Nearside steering system has slight free play detected at steering wheel".

My MOT tester hates Renaults and told me not to worry about the steering as it's a typical 'Renault thing'..

Bit of a pain though as when I eventually come to sell it, that's going to be on the orange MOT sheet so the buyer will have a go at knocking a few quid off..

Yes last year I had a fail on a number plate bulb, which was working in the morning but decided to break some time between leaving it and being tested, both bottom ball joints, and advisories on both front and rear brake discs, a coroded road spring was also mentioned in despatches, MMMm excellent!
Ball joints and bulb done, test past!
within two months of pass, car starts to drift a little, so investigation finds steering arm passenger side has play, so I take it home, that evening whilst going over a sleeping policeman BANG!!!! passenger front road spring breaks (coroded one) so it limps home injured! either at the time or during its limp home the sealing ring on the new ball joint pops, so that in knackered as well, Oh JOY! BUT didn't spot it so spring was done and whilst waiting for steering joint and steering arm I changed front discs and pads, this is when I noticed grease on my hands from under the lower suspension arm :sad so a new arm was purchased as well, that weekend 2 new front tyres, passenger lower suspension arm and steering arms passenger side done off it went to be 4 wheel aligned, which could not be done as when on the ramp they spotted the driver side steering axeial joint was worn as well, AGGGG  so back home it went new steering joint and ball joint as well ordered and fitted, and re tracked perfect, just rear discs to do, once they where done and the head up display also replaced, along with the hand brake, cam belt and water pump we just managed to get into December, so far this year just rear tyres and lower [dog bone] stabiliazer changed.
Hopefully this year will be non eventful for it, apart form the front tyres it will need later this year. as the MOT guy said well there is not a lot left for it to fail on! good point but wasn't convinced until I got that ticket in my hand!
