Can anyone explain this because I can't...esp door button!

Problem with your Megane? Can't find an answer? Workshop manuals and technical notes are in here.

Can anyone explain this because I can't...esp door button!

Postby walkerg1983 » Mon Jun 22, 2009 8:30 pm

Hi folks,

This is my first post on this forum...Sorry if I've waffled on a bit with this post but it's driving me nuts...

I recently purchased a Megane II 1.9dci Dynamique (53 plate) and I would have to say I'm about 80% happy with it... The reason I aint 100% is unfortunately because of some niggly little problems that have started to appear already! I am hoping that I will be able to sort some of them out myself but I was wondering if you could let me know whether I'm on the right track cos there's so much different info out there...

Problem 1 - Passenger side window operates up and down with interior button (on drivers & passengers side) but when I deadlock the car with all windows and sunroof open the passenger window is the only one that doesn't go up! (Maybe I'm complaining about nothing here but it's just annoying and I wish it would work). Having read a number of the posts on this site and others, do I have a faulty window regulator or does it involve some sort of window motor reset?

Problem 2 - I can't set off the alarm! This might seem like a bit of a strange little problem but all I want to do is check that it works. I have read everywhere how to disable it but how do I check it operates and where the heck is it!? To make things worse I was convinced one day that it could possibly be one of the ultrasonic sensors not working properly so I thought I would take a look at them both. When I took one off the wires came away from the component... looks as though someone has already been fiddling with it and made a really poor job at soldering! Do I need a new Alarm?

Problem 3 - The handsfree door lock button on the drivers side doesn't work however following heavy rain it decides to rectify itself and work for a short period of time before packing in again! Now I'd really be interested to know what people's thoughts are on this because I'm lost! I should point out that the passenger door button works however the two rear doors also appear to be faulty. Do you think I need to replace the faulty door handles?

Hopefully there's someone out there that can help me or do I just have to live with these gremlins for as long as I'm a megane owner...

Cheers

Graeme

Hi,

They sound like common faults and I have experienced a couple of them.

Problem 1 - you could try removing the fuse for the front electric windows (with both front windows open), it's a 25amp fuse by the glove box. Leave it out for a minute then replace, then dead lock the car and see if they both move up; They may only go up 1 inch at a time, but to reset this use the switches in the car to close both windows and then hold the button in the up direction for 5 - 10 seconds. This will reset the one touch up.

Problem 2 - to test the alarm single lock the car with a window open (or double lock with the passenger window open before you fix problem 1   ) wait for a minute and then stick your arm through the window and move it around. You should then hear the alarm siren and the indicators will flash. If nothing happens then it does sound like the ultrasonics have been broken at some point. You shouldn't need a new alarm as the ultrasonics should be available seperately (someone will correct me if I'm wrong).

Problem 3 - Dito, my door handles have a mind of their own, only the drivers side passenger door works with any regularity but they all improve when wet :?: :?: I've not bothered looking into this on my car, but I believe a new handle will set you back in the region of £100 a door. I've also noticed recently that only the drivers side doors will open the car - this is more annoying than the not locking problem.

Good luck with it all.

04 Plate 1.6 Dynamique

Issues to Date:
Dephaser - replaced
Cam Sensor - replaced
Start up problems, goes to two cylinders unless reved to hell - annoying, but untraced cause.
Water Leak in Boot - removed, came back, removed, came back again. Given up

Rob,

Thanks very much for writing back. I'm going to give those points you made a try and I'll let you all know how I get on...

Cheers!

Hi folks,

Just a little update...

Problem 1 - now seems to be resolved...! I took the passenger window fuse out, as advised, and then put it back in and reset the window and hey presto it now works! I wonder how long it will keep working for though...

Problem 2 - Alarm is still not working... phoned the garage I bought the car from and I am going to try and get them to look at it... failing that I believe maplin.co.uk sells ultrasonic senor components for £4.99 so I will buy one and swap it over with the sensor that I think is faulty on the car and see if that works... Still much cheaper than renault who told me I would need to buy a new alarm system! ha.

Problem 3 - Still no joy with this one... the door handle buttons have magically started working again the other morning following a slightly wet night (Really can't explain this still... anyone else got an idea why this happens?). Think i might try to buy some window sealing strips to replace the ones on the car just now...I'm just concerned that rain water can get into these window compartments far too easily... has anyone changed these over before?

I'm sure I read elsewhere that Renault DO sell the sensors separately. For some reason £18 sticks in my mind. Failing this and assuming the Maplin ones don't work, the alarm is made by Cobra who also make aftermarket systems. A good alarm fitter should be able to work on the alarm and fit new sensors if this proves to be the problem. If you are already convinced, see if Cobra will send you some. https://www.cobravehiclesecurity.co.uk/d ... 9379916408

Ive had the issue with the door handle on both my meganes. TBH, it was just something Ive learnt to live with. As long as the key card works, Im reasonably happy. Oh, and mine only works when wet too, Im sure its the cars way of saying 'clean me!'

hy there,

about your problem no. 3 there are reports here on the forum that the door sensors are sensible to the cold and humidity. If there is not a rainy day and the outside temp is around 15-20ºC it works or not?

cheers
