Where can I get diesel injector "O" rings?

Postby Ian S » Wed Feb 02, 2011 10:26 am

Where can I obtain "O" rings for the diesel return pipe connections on the injectors. Vehicle model is Megane ll, 1.5 DCi, 2006. This is the 3rd time They have leaked. Repaired twice previously under warranty.

Hi mate, I would be contacting customer services and saying that "obviously the correct repair procedure wasn't adhered to as per the renault documentation, when the return pipes are replaced as per documentation, you should use a lubricant to refit which stops the problem re occouring" as it has leaked again it calls into question the dealers repair methods. Therefor you don't beleive the first repairs were carried out correctly, as per renaults recomendations. Stick to this line and don't take any BS from them about your mileage, age of car etc. stick to your guns and they should cave.
If you don't get anywhere i would try a hydraulic pipe specialist like pirtek for oil resistant o'rings and use some silicon free lub to stop them twisting as you fit them, this is what stresses them and causes them to split.

Thanks for the info, I didn't think I was going to get a response. I can source "O" rings but need an old one to get the dimensions and didn't want to have my transport out of commision. I was hoping someone had been down this road before so that I could get them before dismantling.
Thanks again for the advice.

Hi again, i've not got one at hand to measure but it would be around 6mm outside dia with approx thickness of 1mm, and colour coded green, but i would try customer services on 08000 72 33 72 and also don't let them say "we'll call you back", as they play the waiting game knowing that you need it fixed so you will get fed up waiting and just pay up first. So tell them you'll stay on the line, they will then try and say some BS about needing to use their phone to contact their supervisor or something like, which again is BS as they are all in one big open plan office! give them a try, you've nothing to loose and everything to gain and don't worry about upsetting either cust services or the dealer by getting one over on them, they're not your friends, its not personel just business

Hi was wondering if you came to a successfull conclusion on this as same thing happened to me, when I went to renault for replacement was told I would have to replace the entire fuel return pipe system at a cost of £70.00 for the part(as dont supply O'ring on their own) or £320 to supply and fit, needless to say I walked away. Mate managed to fit an O'ring that he had spare but can be found at B&Q for £1.13 for a pack of varying sizes.
Was wondering just how quick your O'ring was failing and also was it the same injector or did you replace all of them same time.
Now of course Im wondering is there something else that can be done to prevent this from happening again as it also caused the starter motor to fail.

Also done a measurment of failed O'ring as follows....... 6mm outside, 4mm inner, approx 1mm thick and green in colour( if that matters?) hope this helps others in the same predicament.

Hi,
just seen your post. I have measured the "O" ring and get 1.3mm cross section and 3.6mm inner dia. My very good local repairer(not a dealer) did a temporary repair with an "O" ring from a bicycle brake caliper repair kit. not the exact size, but it has worked. They did this for me a number of months ago on another injector and this hasn't failed yet.
I'm in the process of trying to locate some of these, but they don't match up on dimensions. The material is green Viton, OK for diesel and other hydrocarbons and will tolerate temperatures up to 200deg C. I can get them made but we are talking in big numbers. The nearest in size is 1.78mm cs by 3.5mm inner dia. at 12p each. My recent quote for a repair kit was £72.00 plus of course the VAT.
If Im successful, I'll post the details.
Ian.

I'm having the same problem with the injector leak off pipe.

Did you get any further with those custom o rings?

I tried a 3mm x 1.5mm o ring but it is just too big and got damaged when insterted.

Thanks

Adam
