Fuel consumption advice please

Postby nickboazracing » Fri Feb 04, 2011 7:44 pm

Hi everyone,

I'm new to Megane ownership, having bought my 2004 1.9 DCi in January.

It's covered 58,000 miles, and while I am pleased with it as a whole, I don't think I am getting the mpg I should be.

On a tank average I am getting 40-41 mpg. This is a daily 40 mile round trip to work, mostly motorway, and usual town driving to the shops etc at weekends.

Having searched through other topics on here, I believe I should be getting more like 45+ at least, and well into the 50's on a run. (Which is what I was anticipating before I bought it)

I drive it quite steadily and sympathetically, certainly not heavy footed, and am consciously trying for a high mpg as that is the main reason for buying the car!

The car has had a full service including fuel and air filters.

So my questions are:
Should I be getting better mpg than I am?
If so, are there common or known problems that may cause poor fuel economy? (Like EGR valve or system?)

Thanks!
Nick.

I never believed this until I filled up with Maxol and got 30+ more miles than I did with the usual Tesco fill up. I won't be going back!

I do a 40 mile round trip to work and back each day which is mostly motorway driving to and im getting 42mpg. Mind you mine is spitting diesel out the exhaust atm lol. Do you sit in alot of traffic cos when I used to on my way to work it would drop down to like 38mpg
