Starting problems - 2006 Megane 1.6 16v

Postby m4rky » Wed Sep 15, 2010 11:20 am

Hi, my 2006 1.6 16v Megane is having problems starting.

You can hear the car turn over then after, say, 4 seconds it starts. Then there is no problems.

Its the same problem whether the engine is warm or cold.

Any ideas? Is this the TDC problem?

Thanks,

Mark

Well I decided that I would try and clean the TDC.

The battery and battery tray needs to be removed.
I can get the battery out but how do you get the battery tray out???

There are two Torx screws on the bottom (that are very rusty) then another at the front of the tray connected to a pipe (air??)

But it looks as though the ECU is also part of the battery tray!
This scared me so I left it alone.

What do I need to do???

I saw another thread that said you need to unclip the ECU and then undo the three Torx bolts on the battery tray.

So I gave it another go.

But the Torx screws are badly corroded and won't come out.
Does any one know what Torx screws they are and the length so I can get some replacement ones. Or a part number :-)

I will have to get a garage to drill the corroded ones out.

thats the same problem i have with my 55 plate 1.6 16v does it sound like the fuel not getting through quick enough to fire up as with mine i push the button it turns over but takes bout 5/6 sec to start
i changed the tdc sensor and loom changed the cam sensor but still the same the car only has 29k on the clock
starting to think it might be the dephaser but not sure as there is no noise on start up

Sorry I haven't sorted the problem out yet.

We have a number of problems with the Megane and this one is now bottom of the list.
Just had the front window motors and regulators sorted. Renault paid 75% of cost.
Its going back into the dealer as the door pockets keep filling up with water. Again another known problem to renault.
The Clutch is juddering in first and second. Trying to work out the most cost effective way of getting this fixed. We have a warranty and its a known problem to Renault but I know we'll get the car dismantled and both will try and wriggle out of it and we'll be stuck with a bill from the dealer for a days labour.

So the starting is bottom. Its also a pain as I still haven't managed to get the battery tray screw out. I bought a new one from Renault and they've change the design!!! Its no longer a TORX but a flange bolt (ie you need a socket set to get it out rather than a screwdriver) so sounds like another Renault known problem with corroded bolts.

Oh yes nearly forgot the biggest problem. One of the sidelights has gone so need to drop the bumper to get the headlight out to replace the bulb. :grin
