Megane cc 2.0 VVT With cam related issue? :(

Postby Karmann04 » Sat Jan 22, 2011 9:30 pm

Hello iv joined this site as im getting to the point of giving up with my megane as it has an on going fault as follows,, i really hope someone can help me :(

Fours months ago i got the car,no issues was driving fine then one day when driving more than 3 miles i stoped at some lights,as i went to pull away my check ignition light came on and my car bunny hoped across the road. stoped restarted it fine ,drove it home did it again and again having to restart it each time and sounding lumpy.
So:

Took it to my friends garage and he pluged the computer in. got a code that the thottle body was faulty. so cleaned it ,still no diffrence, changed it for new one from renault ,still no diffrence. it went back again reset the codes and he changed the fly by wire control under the dash, still no diffrence. went back again, had new pugs oil filters coils tested and gresed up, and the battery replaced ,still no diffrence!.

Then i checked this web site for clues, tdc looked possible but only seems to be on the 1.6 and no info on the 2.0 as where it is and im told they dont have one?,checked the dephaser solinode, cleaned it as renault told me ,checked it could switch with 12 volts seems ok

Then. gave up went to renault .... :( they clip clip tested it told me the alternator was faulty as it was failing by 1%??? also told me to change the dephaser as it seemed cam related...which i no is common, i asked why does it only happen when its warn the guy said that it was to hard to tell and to change these parts first..well thats great if your happy to splash the cash but im running out :( ....and im not convinced because the cars fine when starting cold,no evil dephaser tapping at all,it only starts when the cars hot then the daphaser seems to not be getting oil ,and taps ,which renault agreed but where uncertain what to do?... the only other thing i no is the new battery which was 90ah is now only 11ah so something is draining the battery??

hope iv explained this as clear as i can and hope someone has some ideas and can help me ..regards jay

Jay,

I don't have any experience with the petrol models of the Megane. However, the alternator being 1% out of line doesn't concern me. The battery being rated 11Ah does. I suggest you replace it. How old is the car?

The fact that the dephaser issue only arises when the car is warm leads me down the path to question what oil is in the car. Old/badly specified oil might be breaking down at high temperatures.... or

I suggest that you measure the battery voltage when cold. Then measure when running. You should get >12.5V cold, and 13.8 - 14.2V running (experiment with switching all the electronics on - lights, demister, etc). If the measurements are out of line - then it is possible that there is an electrical issue to contend with. If the running voltage is too low, it might affect the performance of the dephaser solenoid (if it is indeed electronic). This simple test might reveal something.

Best advice for Megane owners: sell it before it bankrupts you!

thank you for your reply dave,
i will check this voltage and get back to you as for the oil, that is new and the battery is also new. i hope i can get somewhere with it and agree voltage checks are a must as it must be electrical :)
jay.
