Honest answer wanted - what can i sell her for

Postby Oscar-pepper » Tue Nov 30, 2010 9:30 pm

Hi,

Looking at selling my Renault Megane CC, and wondered if some of you could give me an honest answer as to what i could get for her, see spec below, think i may be getting a company car

05 plate - 2005 - 1.6 VVT Dynamique (Euro 3) - Metallic blue (looks great when clean and polished), a real eye catcher
4 seats - 3 dr
Manual - Petrol
47 mpg
3 owners inc myself
MOT due April 11
Taxed until End Feb 2011
Automatic lights and windscreen wipers - can disable the automatic lights
Automatic central locking, when you pull away from parking - for security - can disable this
Front and Rear double fog lights
Seatbelt protectors on, to stop them rubbing your shoulder when done up (matching blue)
Radio/CD player, great sound system,
Serviced every 15k, but not by renault, garage that i have used for years, last one 4 weeks ago
Roof mechanism works perfectly, goes up and down quickly and smoothly
Have followed the rule of not parking on an angle, and thinks this has helped
Interior of a good standard - apart from slight split in carpet in the drivers footwell (again from previous owner, wearing heals with no mats), new fitted mats, with trim to match the paintwork, put in 2 months ago
Very good on oil, check regularly between services, especially before long journeys, and never once had to top it up
Recent work done:
New breakpads and discs on the front - 4 weeks ago
New breakpads and discs on the rear - 6 months ago
4 new tyres - rear last friday - front 4 weeks ago
Engine Mount replaced - 2 weeks ago
Resistor (heater) along with 3 wires replaced
booked in for cambelt change 2 weeks on monday
Brand new battery - AA fitted - under warranty from Nov 10 for 5 years
Work done while i have had her:
Doors realigned
New mirror seals, both passenger and driver side
New windscreen 12 months ago
Driving panel Switch - by renault: £520.00, air bag was coming out of the steering wheel, switch panel was fully replaced and is under warranty for another 8 years
O2 sensors - 1&2 both been replaced - 6 months ago
2 Coils replaced - 1 in Oct 07 - another 2 months ago
Now the daunting part:
mileage - 96,000
couple of small dents in each door, from idiots not being able to open their car doors carefully, even though i park away from everyone
Rear passenger window, doesn't currently open with the main switch, yet goes down with ease when putting the roof down
Front passenger alloy, slightly scuffed on edge, from previous owner, and some slight peeling in the centre
No service history, prior to me owning, bought it with 38,000 mileage - in Sept 2007

Additional:
Renault Tax disc holder - Aluminium casing with screws and allen key to change tax disc
When i bought her in 07, the gear knob and gater had worn, no digits on knob and holes in the gater, have replaced both, blue gater and carbon knob, unfortunately the knob doesn't have digits on, as it is a sport version
Silver pedals fitted, with rubber foot area, look very good
May consider selling it with the handsfree kit that i use in it, Parrot - all fitted by halfords, but no holes made, so front of radio is pretruding slightly, thought it better that way, than to put holes in, in case i sold it - works with all phones, and multi phones can be connected, ie work, personal, or partners etc. Works on the Blackberry, Iphone & Iphone4, no problems, and easy to sync, control panel on the driver door handle. Also has a connection in the glove box to connect your ipod, to play through the speakers, or play music on your phone, name recognition when you want to call someone, and just say accept to answer a call or press the green call button on control. When a call comes in, it cuts the radio out until you end the call
Have noticed a couple of comments regarding smells, can honestly say there is no musty smells, it has never leaked from the footwell or boot

Overral:
The car has been a dream, i have travelled up and down the country in it, and not had any problems, work that i have had done, is general maintainance, but due to the high mileage, has all happened at once or sooner than expected.

If there is anything that i haven't put down or you want more info, please let me know, i want a realistic and honest value on her, so i know what to advertise at, if i do decide to sell her.

Thanks in advance

Possibly around £5/6k, many go for diesels due to the lower road tax bracket, If it where me I would consider holding on to it until the spring, where it will get a better price as people will be looking to get the top off then, at present with conditions as they are nobody is thinking topless driving is fun.
Wouldn't worry to much about the miles as long as you can get it 100% presentable, do you have any documentation for the work done if so excellent selling tool as well, just get it spick and spam and it will sell itself, the buyer usually makes thier mind up in the first couple of minuites so it has to have that awful saying 'kerb appeal' the buyer must want it as soon as they see it, so it needs to be polished a couple of times to give a deep shine, nice black tyres, clean rims and windows, all counts, I got rid of my Fiat Bravo (1.2) on a T plate with 150k on it for £600, I bought it 6 years earlier with 40k on it for 2K not a bad sale 1st one to see it bought it, I now have a 2004 1.9Dci CC Privilege onboard sat Nav, full leather pack etc it has 41k on it, one owner, full Renaul history for £5.500 - not the best car I have ever bought, still needed a fair bit of work done, have a look on ebay motors and https://www.autotrader.co.uk and see what the market is paying for them at present, April I would consider selling mine as that was when I found it quite hard to find a decent priced one, most where up at 7.5K onwards with large miles on as well.
Oh by the way it is a 2 door, not a 3, a 3 would make it a hatch, which is classed as the 3rd door (for some reason) but a boot lid is not classed as a door.
You may also find it has 1 fog lamp on the rear, unless someone has modified it for two, as standard they have 1 rear fog.
Difficult time to sell a car, not a lot of cash around at present.

Probably nearer 4-4.5k with that mileage looking at similar on Autotrader. You'd be wiser
To keep it until the spring when you might get a bit more!

Black 1.6 off a used car lot near us went for £5,995 with 93k on it, no leather, no didgi AC, (not the best bodywork) be suprised if asking price was got but I bet it was no less than £5.5, as this chap is quite renowend for not dropping price, and if he does no more than £400 max.
I think it was an 04 or an 05, not sure now possibly an 04 as I thought it was a diesel like mine, was worth a look to see what condition it was for the price.

I would never buy off him! but it goes to show there is the odd mug out there, and it did look quite tasty when it was all cleaned up, (saw it in the forecourt before pickup) no doubt sold with a 12 month not worth a penny warranty as well. So there people are still around, funny though they never come to me.

Would deffinatly keep it if possible to the spring, cash is very tight out there at present and used cars are very hard to sell, once spring comes convertables are like motorbikes sell well when the thought of summer sun is in thier mind, and once April arrives prices will pass yours and the person who can't afford £6K upwards for a 70k'er will look at yours at £5.5k and will possible go at £5 to £5.250 k

For a cheap bike or convertable now and January are the best times to buy, when the weather it at its coldest. once mid Feb hits people start looking towards summer and prices start rising
