Poor radio reception

Hi, I've got a Update List Tuner unit in my 2005 Megane with very poor radio reception. I've heard some rumors about poor grounding being the cause of this, or a faulty antenna amplifier. Does anyone have a quick tip about what to check out and where to locate it before I need to replace the unit itself?
