VIN NUMBER CORRECT BUT NOT SURE IF ORIGNAL?

Postby yungbuck » Wed Sep 15, 2010 10:17 am

hi i am a new driver who has jus recently purchased a 2003 renault megane dynamique, after purchasing i came to notice that the way the vin number in the engine was attached looked iffy but i am stil unsure whether it is orignial or not. before purchasing i carried out a full hpi check complete with vin confirmation and i have seen the v5 so i know the vin matches the plate although i am stil waiting for the document to be sent back to me. i was wondering if anybody with a similar model could take a picture of the vin plate inside their bonnet so i could see how it was attached. thanks in advance

compare it to the VIN on the dash... it's quite hard to change that one. if they match, it should be genuine, just a banged up vin plate

IS the VIN number 'attached'?

I thought it was stamped into the steel.

Where are you looking? If you hook it up to a CLIP it will tell you the VIN number from the ECU.

Go to the Renault website. Register. Go to "My cars". Enter the plate details. Check the recorded VIN and associated details with the car itself. Not bullet proof, but if the plate comes up not registered, it maybe a cut-and-shut, accident right off, or a grey import.
Silver 08 plate 5dr 1.5dci Dynamique 106 Tech Run (re-mapped)

Red 03 plate 5dr 1.9 Dynamique dci120

Best advice for Megane owners: sell it before it bankrupts you!
