Oh S##t

Postby gav1pam » Sat Sep 04, 2010 6:44 pm

Hit a uncovered drain cover, was speeding admittedly, 40 in a 30!!! Big deal

Ripped my alloy apart, shattered my rear disk, bent caliper and bent wheel mounting pin on axle.

Luckely I was booked in next week for new rear pads and discs so im able to get them early, got second hand axle and caliper for £120 from breakers today.

So changing the total rear end on Monday.

Has anyone done this?
Break advise and problems would be a great help.

Cheers

Gav

You will need a very long breaker bar and a chrome vanadium socket (6 rather than 12 flats). Brute force - the nut is tight at the best of times. The car is likely to move even in gear and chocked - take care. Unless anything else is bent, you should be okay. Sounds like you know more about it that me so good luck.

How the hell did you hit an uncovered drain cover??! Either you've ploughed through some roadworks, or someone from the council has left it open, in which case I'd look into sending them your repair bills!

Mate i dont know, just going to fast and not looking what i was doing....
Anyway, 1 hour to remove axle and half hour to replace it!!!
Easy stuff.
Just disks and pads tomorrow, not looking forward to that...still not bad going for an ameture...
To be honest its made me realise how much I can do on a car, less trip to the garage now.

I cant send repair bills because i done work my self and havnt got a reciept for the axle.
Plus i was booked in for disks and pads on the 18th so i save 50 note doing them myself.

Yeah the drain cover was missing.
