Re: 225 engine in 1.6 megane
If you got the money and time I'd assume it can be done, but not seen any Meganes done yet. Many Ford owners swap RS engines into various Fords, but don't forget the implications of everything else you'll have to upgrade too if you go for a more powerful engine. Brakes and suspension components being the most important. Then possibly the gearbox and drive shafts as assume they'll be uprated too. Could be wrong but can't see the std gearbox and drive train being the same as the 225's and coping with the extra grunt and abuse.
Go on get it done

It would be cheaper thats for sure.
There is so much to change. Not just a case of taking one engine out and putting another in.

May be best buying a complete car (rear end write-off) as you get the interior too.

Re: 225 engine in 1.6 megane
there are usually loads of 225 beign written off so a breakers yard or ebay is the best place to look.
Your going to need the complete engine, inc all ancillaries, gearbox, not sure on what the crack is with the driveshafts, as the 225 has a wider setup than the standard megs, so the 225 drivshafts may be no good as may be the same case with the 1.6 ones. wiring loom, engine management.
Upgraded brakes will be an absolute must otherwise you'll be through a hedge in no time, same can be said for the sus.
You will be luck to get any change from £1500 for the engine alone, then the gearbox will be £300+, Possibly custom driveshafts made £??? or change all the suspension setup for a 225 inc hubs and brakes £???
And then labour on top, which will be around a grand if your lucky. unless you know a decent mechanic, and i stress a decent mechanic and not a pal who knows how to change a spark plug, as anyone who has ever worked on a megane will tell you the electics are an absolute pig.
End of the day you would easy end up spending £3-5k doing it, easy, and then if you actually wrote the car off, you'd get nowt, and if you crashed into someones £30k motor you'd end up paying it or worse case scenario, no license, prison for not having insurance.
Totally not worth it man, save the poke up buy a 225, you can pick them up for 6k now, dont know what your insuarance will be like
