Hi,
Im thinking of stripping my headlights down and painting the reflective silver part black.
I was just wondering if this is legal and will it pass the MOT?
Cheers in advance

Re: Black Lights
Only legal in projector headlamps.
Non projector headlamps would be failed as the light bulbs would be as good as candles.....

Re: Black Lights
Would you not consider buying angle eye head lamps...dark? Or get Laminex tint for the lense.

Re: Black Lights
Forgot to to mention, its not for my megane, it for my tigra.
There not projector lamps either.
I didnt want to spend £100+ on angel eyes, plus i've made a good mod to the originals and made them into R8 style with the LEDS.
Cheers for the advice

You have 2 options....eBay or what i would strongly consider doing is getting a window tint'r and get him/her to do it. 35% Dark Smoke looks rather smart!

Re: Black Lights
So long as you dont paint the main reflector section you'll be ok. See above for the lights on my old Focus ST170 which are standard fit and identical to the lower model Focus lights but unpainted and left in a grey plastic finish. When I had a mondeo I stripped the light units and painted them black, I'm sure I've seen a megane on here with it done too

The above link shows what I'm trying to explain on the ford focus. Hope this helps. Will hopefully be doing this to mine in the summer when I've got a second car and got time to play with the megane.

Re: Black Lights
No problem, hope you got some idea of what to do now. Get some pics up when you have a go at it.

Re: Black Lights
i had done that on my old focus, look well tidy, but you wont be able to do it on a megane unfortunatly, xeons yes, it has been done, but not the standard ones.

Re: Black Lights
Get our new car next Tuesday (Toyota Avensis Tourer
) so hopefully can start playing with the Megane next week. First thing on list get one of the headlights off and see if it can be blacked off.
Cant see why it can't be done so long as you don't paint over the main light housing and only do the cosmetic surfaces as shown in the mondeo pics. Ok I admit there will not be as much as on the mondeo or focus to spray but there will be some surface area to do.
