Hi my 54 reg megane drivers window will only go down no matter if i press up or down! The motor can be heard and i can get the window to close as normal when I deadlock the car!
Thought it might be the switch but after reading forums not so sure now.
Have found it could be a contol thingy( I am a girl lol) ontop of the regulator that could be to blame.
My question is what is it called?
Thanks as bit embarrassed keep trying to explain what I want lol
Thanks :grin

Hi
No need to be embarrised, they ca nba calleda number of things, especially when they don't work, they get some very colourful names then, several shades of blue!!!!
I think the correct name is the regulator ECU, but can also be known as the reg control box, these are not avalible seperatly, so it looks lke a complete regulator usually, I could not even get into mine as I don't have the right size torx bit soom to have every size around it but not the proper one, sounds like it has probally got wet some how, some times you can rescue them by disconecting the power plug to them inside the door, and dry out the plug if it is moist, my friend did this with his hatch back I think he warmed the ECU a bit as well with a hair fryer, then left it whilst he had lunch plugged it in again and it has worked ok since, a little slower now than the other windows but works!
So it may be worth a try getting the door panel off and may be do the drying thing and see, regulators are rather expensive for them, considering it is a known fault on them all.
Hop this helps a bit.

Hi,
I have a Megane CC 53 plate. The rear side passenger window mechanism died on me the other, day when i was bringing the roof back up. In essence the window was stuck half way up. I am assuming that the mechanism in the motor is damage, since the cable that controls the height off the window is no longer being wound up.
I was wondering if anyone knows where i could order a mechanism from?? Assuming it is the window mechanism!!!
The motor does make a sound, when i press the window switch.

thanks for the help

Makes like a chewing sound, as you press the up button it may be possible to "pull" the glass up a bit at a time, I managed this when mine went.
If you search on a my posts you should find a fairly detailed explination of how to get this regulator out, not a very hard job really, not as hard as you think. your main worry at present is your car in insecure and when you drop the roof the next time it may pull that rear window down a bit, it also drops as you drive it so if you get it up tape it in place with electric tape.
mine is still broken, I have an 07 reg in my garage which I will fit soon. I sugest you do the same at present as it makes the car secure again, to do this.
Find and follow my explination on removal. Once you get the reg out remove the cables from the motor completly easy to do and self explanitary when you see it, but you need to get rid of them as you will still be using the motor once cables are out, you need to push the window on its guides to the top of its travel and use two nuts and bolts through the 2 guide slots with washers directly under the metal glass holder tighten the bolts up these hold the window glass up again once out and in your hand self explanitary, replace reg and make sure you conect the motor up as well bolt it all in place do not put the trims back instead take out the 3 large rubber gromets on the rear panel one is by a haydraulic ram for the roof can't miss em pop em out, put up roof close front door, when roof is goinf on watch the rear glass to see what happens as you don't want the glass to high as it will make the roof leak, you will possibly find the glass is not quite right sitting wise so you can adjust the rear glass through these large rubber gromet holes with a 10 mm socket Slacken the bolts a bit, DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THEM!!!!!! you may shatter the glass, you can tilt it, drop and rasie is a bit on these mounts to get a good seal. You need the front door shut with window up to align it all.
once this is done, drop roof again and reassemble trims - Job Done takes me about 1 hour to do job start to finish.1st time it took around 2 hrs as took time to be sure so allow around 2/2.5 hrs first time around.
Roof works fine, window does not go down but motor turns, not sure you see if the roof reads the motor turning so I just conected it with out the cables.
Once Cables have chewed up motor is usually ok but the mechanism inside will be US as it is plastic and all the small tracks on the winder are ruined, if you get a motor for it (ebay) you must replace the cables as well (not avalible, unless you have them specially made again window cables -ebay) any kink in the winding cables will destroy the motor mechanism very quickly. looks a bit of a pain to rewind the cables - should make for a few hours of total swearing and flustration at the fact you only have two hands but really need 3.
BEST BET!
New reg comes with its base palate, motor and cables but no glass price in around £195.00 + VAT I belive from Renault
EBAY! excellent source of parts - Will not be listed, so you need to search for scrapping megane CC, or just scrapping megane scroll till you find a few CC's and use the ask seller a question button, same goes for anyone selling CC parts, just ask, this is what I do when I need anything for it you will be suprised what people have but don't list - hand brake is a great one listed one went for £105 I was after it but left it after £80, did the above asked about a H/Brake and bought one for £35 from a scrap dealer, got my Rear Reg the same way for £85 as it was from an 07 car, the 05 reg I used earlier which broke (my fault as didn't adjust it and it kept hitting the roof) cost £55 so they are around if you keep looking and the bolt idea extends you time frame with out costing you roof down time, both used regs came on there base plates with motor and cables no glass same as you would get from Renault, Watch out for the Megane Phase 1 regs for the cabs they look almost the same but they don't fit, do NOT buy a 5 door rear reg it is not the same a lot of things do cross some don't this rear reg is one of them. (the hand brakes do and are a lot cheaper from a hatch or est or saloon than a CC)
Hope this helps. ;-) :) :D  8)

Thanks for that detailed approach Chris. I am aiming to get it sorted in the next few days. yeah the motor does make a chewing sound, i did manage to get the window up eventually buy pulling it, i had to remove the arm rest. However the cable appears to have a kink it, so i have unwound the cable from the motor and the window is being held up by tape!!!
By the look off it, i may need a few reg, but ill wait to see what the guys at the garage saw!!

I take it you mean passenger rear window motor, if so then I am afraid it is roof down, out with the rear seats, off with the side trim to get to the 3 large round plastic/rubber gromits, once removed, on with the roof then a 10mm socket on an extension to slacken slightly the 3 10mm nuts through the gromit holes once all 3 are slack then you can actually move the glass around a bit, so you can postion it just where you want it, don't forget to shut the front door though as it seals there as well, it is easier if you have a 2nd pair of hands to hold the glass while you are inside the car (er in doors is quite useful for this purpose).
NOTE!!!!
DO NOT over tighten them you could crack the glass so nip them up just enough to hold the glass, then is is roof down again and put it all back together, make sure you don't push it up to high like I did (well gusssed hight really) and it put strian on the cables as it was lifiting the roof slightly when it closed so you must adjust with the roof up to get it right. ;)

Thanks to ChrisM for instructions on how to get to rear passenger window mechanisms! Saved me a whole lot of time and trouble....my problem was rear offside quarter glass stuck halfway....when I got to motor I disconnected then reconnected multi plug and hey presto! it worked!! Obviously a poor connection....gave it a good spray with contact cleaner and re-assembled everything....all now working as it should! and all done in 90 minutes!! :-) Roll on Summer!!

Maybe, there was a post on here some where about that, I think it depends on if you have some screws in the bottom of the door, some members said they have some didn't, could well be hidden behind gromets, under the door, you need to open it and look under the door frame can not remember the details as I haven't had this problem (yet) s odidn't pay much attention, but it is on here some where.

Hello all,

I had similar problem with all my windows some working intermittantly then not at all on various switches then all switches which was very annoying.
For the driver passenger door i removed door card then unplugged the regulator sprayed 3in1 silicone spray lubricant in the connector and around the wires to disperse water and protect wires. once i plugged it back in it has worked ever since with no issues. if u do this make sure u get the correct spray it says on the back suitable for electrics.

There rear windows however is a different matter very difficult to get to them. After searching these forums i emailed renault and spoke to yvonne gordon who spoke to my local dealer and arranged a repair for me after diagnosis that the problem was the regulator I only had to pay 25% of the bill to replace both regulators which was around £170 each which i had to pay.

My car is a 54 plate megane 1.9dci and the repairs where done about may time 2010.

Its worth and email just to weigh up your options.

Thats it really, hope it helps a bit

Just would like to say thanks to you Chris for a detailed explanation. I'm a complete newbie at this spanners stuff but feel confident enough from your description to give it a go. Thank you!!!

p.s. Mods, if this isn't stickied, it damn well should be! This seems to be a VERY common problem :)

Thanks Ash, going to try this first (Used the General Enquiry form on the Renault Website). If this doesn't come out reasonable then I will attempt Chris's solution. Thanks!

Hi Guys, I've read all your posts with great intrest but one thing confuses me: My rear drivers side quarterlight window has stopped working (in up right position luckly) and I understand that it will probably be the regulator module, however can anyone just please clarify is the regulator module situated in the rear back quarter panel or in the drivers door panel? Sorry if I've missed it or I'm being thick. I've also read how to access the rear quarter panel but has anyone any idea of how long it would take to replaced the regulator (if in rear quaerter panel) and would a novice like myself have any chance of sucess?

Thanks in advance
