Fault code reader no codes???

Postby monkeymanmonk » Fri Apr 02, 2010 3:52 pm

HI
I keep getting" check injection light, service, sometimes stop come on".
I have bought a code reader which is an obd2 canbus reader so should read but i dont get any codes at all on it.
Thought it might be the reader so tried on my Vectra and it read no problem(engine light was on).
I got the reader from Ebay, its a u480 reader, same one as ktec are selling.
Any ideas any one???? :banghead

CAN bus is irrelevant. Your car uses the K-line interface for OBD.

Does it establish a connection?

Yes seems to connect and read but no codes come up even if i disconnect something under the bonnet it doesnt bring a code up.
I disconnected the boost solenoid ,started the car, check injection light came up.Run code reader, nothing came up,no codes, nothing.

I guess you don't know under which protocol it is trying to connect. See if there are any features in this device for debugging the problems. I use ELM327, it tries about six different protocols, finds the one that works and carries on. Our protocol is ISO-something, I think otherwise known as KWP with short header.
You may also try to check the pinout of the code reader by comparing it to the manual...

Basically, it sounds as a link error. I don't have experience with the device you are using.

No. Sorry. You need either ISO 9141-2 or ISO 14230 for full compatibility. Can't find any data about the device you have. Get an ELM reader as mentioned.

Best advice for Megane owners: sell it before it bankrupts you!

Just checked - my car responds on ISO 14230-4 KWP (fast init, 10.4 Kbaud). There are 7 varieties of ISO standard (European) and 2 of SAE (American) supported in ELM327. All of them are scanned automatically and the appropriate one selected.
