Hi.
I own a 2004 Megane Sport Tourer.
Has anyone else had any issues with their rear spoiler coming off whilst driving along?
It happened to me on the motorway. I was driving at 'motorway speed', when BANG. I thought I'd hit something, but when I pulled over the plastic rear spoiler, including high level brake light and rear window washer jet, was gone! The plastic U-shaped fixings had snapped off completely.
When I mentioned this to my local Renault garage, they said that they have not heard of it happening before. However, the following week I noticed another sports tourer in works car park. When I spoke to the owner he said the same thing had happened to him.
This seems to me to be an extremely dangerous 'feature'. Lucky, no one was behind me when it happened, but it could have been very nasty if it had had hit someone.
So my questions are;
a. is this a know issue?
b. are Renault doing anything about it?
c. will I need to pay for what I see as a defect?
Thanks in advance.
P.S. If it happens to you, I'd recommend finding it to see if you can salvage any of the parts. The cost of replacing it is £190 + vat + the cost of spraying it and fitting it.

never heard of it.
i'm guessing the recent cold weather has put excess strain on the fixings causing them to weaken.

You see the damage the engine can do when it hits the V-Tec... Ohh the power.
Sometime its just uncontrollable!
But in all seriousness as above 'cold weather' damage may have played a part, but ever the less get onto the phone to Renault UK with the line the 'external parts aren't fit for purpose in all respects dangerous to other road users...
With enough pushing they will put that spoiler right back on your motor.
I have pushed them in the past for a snapped 'drive shaft' and a couple of other problems well out of warranty and had them fixed without charge.
One thing that stands for Renault is their Cust service.

I agree - you can be pulled over and fined with points for losing parts of your car or a load on the motorway. Mention that when you call them.

Thanks for the comments. I should have mentioned that it happened before the cold weather. I'd just not thought of trying a forum like this, until now.
I'll get in contact with Renault UK and see how it goes.
Thanks again.

Hi, I'm new to this site. I have just picked up a Sports Tourer (also own a Megane CC). The garage that we bought the car from had to replace the rear spoiler as it flew off on the motorway when the previous owner was taking it in for part exchange so it appears to be a common occurance
