Re: what's the difference?
Usually engine size. I don't believe the 1.4 had any but atleast in terms of petrols the 1.6 and 2.0 models did and I believe the 1.5 diesel did. On phase 2 Scenic models this changed a bit as the 1.6 on mine had no indetifying marks just plain bits, may be the same withe Megane. So in short - no details = small engine.

Re: what's the difference?
hate to differ but the OH's 1.4 has the badges, think renault got rid of them when the facelifted the MKII, my facelift 1.5 has no badges, dont think they are on the last gasp models with the silver detailing on the front grilles bought out just before they changed to the mkIII

Re: what's the difference?
does your silver panel have the engine size and type on it, ie 1.4 16V, 2.0 16V, 2.0 vvti, 1.5Dci, , 1,9 Dci?
if so then we are on the same track, old phase 1 models had a silver badge leading into the side strip telling the world what size engine and type you were packing for some reason the phase 2 had this removed and replaced with a part the same as the rest of strip, my old 05 plate laguna had same marker and ive seen scenics with them..

Re: what's the difference?
Are you talking about the bumper moulding seen on the boot, side doors and under the headlights? Because these do indeed come in black and a kind of silvery/grey/brown.

Trim level!
Lower spec cars have the black badges (Extreme & Expression) on the pre face lift models and higher spec cars have the silver (Dynamique & Privilege)!
Simples!
