Engine Performance Upgrades 1.9dci 120

Postby downsyndromedhorse » Mon Jan 18, 2010 3:13 pm

Afternoon all,

After lowering my car i am now looking into the engine. I could go for a standard remap to 150 or 160 bhp, OR the big monster upgrade to the rare +200bhp. This would require a new exhaust system and clutch.

I am aware that this is very expensive but to say to someone that your 1.9dci produces over 200bhp is something special.
The exhaust i no would cost around 500-600 for a full custom built stainless steel system. But clutch wise, could one from a 225 or the 175dci model fit in? Obviously this would be cheaper than getting a new sports clutch and probably be better for road driving as sports clutches tend to be on/off, no control in the middle.
If so how much would you say to fit one?

If it came to less than £1500 to remap+exhaust+clutch, i dont think that is honestly a bad deal. Especially if it out ran the renaultsport dci and kept up with the 225.

If you all convince me not to do this project over the next year, then i will get her remapped before easter. If so, anyone got any good prices for a remap... best i have is 160bhp and +35nm torque for £299.

Any help and advice much appreciated.

First thing i would do would be to get a larger intercooler from the 175DCi....A turbo from the 175 and a suicidal remap, De-cat, Solid flywheel and take out the spare wheel and all the junk in the boot to give you a few KG's lighter!

hmmm sounds fancy.

Only thing i thought was the clutch being the holder-up-er-er. I think it can only take it up to 160bhp, if i'm wrong then sod it i'll do that^.

Just need someone to be breaking a 175 now!! (Dear God...)

Cheers mate.

you wouldnt need to bother with the 175 intercooler, the 1.9dci intercooler is the same one as the 225 intercooler, and diesels dont run as hot as petrols. if you really wanted to waste some cash an upgraded 225 forge FMI would be the best bet, but you wouldnt see any extra BHP.

Its not your exhaust system that will give you alot of extra bhp either, your cat is the biggest restictor, so a sports cat is a must, de-cat by all means but it will sound like a tractor, not to mention possible slapped wrists from the 5 O.

The clutch you are refering to is called a paddle clutch (on/off-very small bite point) can be very difficult to drive around town etc. You only need a sports/heavy duty clutch, as if you put more torque through the 1.9 than all remappers do it will just chew the standard one to pieces.
I looked into it a few year back there was a company in ireland that stocked them for the 1.9. maybes more places will now i dont know.

No chance it will out run a 175 or keep up with a 225 either, unless they are hammered.

No chance you will get figures of 200+ (without spending megabucks-reworked heads, forged parts, piggyback ecu's etc)

A different turbo i would say is the upmost important thing if you would want to gain big BHP gains, reliably, as the standard one is tiny and overworked with a bit of spirited driving. you could maybes try and find a reworked or moddifed garret whatever it is again turbo they put in the 1.9 plenty of places do it.

To be honest i wouldnt be very confident of trying 200+bhp through one of these lumps knowing what i know now.

Well thats a fair answer, you get different stories and info from different people.
i have lokoed into it a little more but i cant really see the value for money in it, i'll remap her to 160 through cc tuning and that'll do me. I rely on the car too much to have it be unreliable with that much power. I'll probably upgrade to a 175 at the end of the year, or a GT150 remapped. Not sure yet.

Just put some EBC green stuff on her and the brake master cylinders gone!! Pfft, new brakes and they dont work properly. Anyone know how much to replace?

cheers
