It Nearly Killed Me, And Dodgy Window!!

Postby IrvinsMegane » Thu Jun 04, 2009 6:10 am

I Was driving down the road and i hit a speed bump with some force, about 30mph and the whole car cut out, all electrics and power steering, luckly i was on a straight road, but i was coming to work today and i turned at a junction and it cut out again, if i never reacted so quick me and my pregnant girlfriend would have been sitting on bollards rite now!! 5 Star Safety Rating My Arse, Does any1 know what this could be???
Also my electric window was not working, i took it to the garage and they said the motor was knackered! all of a sudden the window magically worked after 2months being broken lol, but i got the new part just incase.

Firstly I'm glad that no one got injured.

Sounds to me like loose wiring somewhere, obvious perhaps but then again it could be something else and I might be talking out of the top of my head but it certainly needs sorting.

I would contact Renault UK and say what has happened, keep it polite, succinct and to the point and keep a record of your conversation, in fact it may be better to do it in writing anyhow.

First point to check would be that the battery terminals are tight. Had it before on an old Fiesta and thats all it was, felt really silly when the AA guy rescued me and told me  Hope its nothing more serious than this.

The negative battery terminal is a terrible design. Its nigh on impossible to get any kind of tool onto the nut to properly clamp it. I resorted to a toy spanner and 1/4" drive wrench - more like the kind of thing you would put remote control cars together with.

Glad there were no injuries.

I think the guy designing the headlight bulb changing process had finished quicker than expected so they set him to work on the negative terminal
