flat spot when pulling away

Hi,

my 54 plate 1.6 Megane has a dreadful flatspot when pulling away from cold, once the car has warmed up it's marginally better

which of the known issues do I have.

There is no grinding noise on start up and it's the only issue I seem to have, it sort of spoils the nejoyment of driving it.

My 1.6 had a flat spot on pick up throughout it's life whilst with me. I think the only thing to do is a remap or I suppose a less restrictive air filter may help.

The throttle body may need cleaning. I am assuming the EOBD reader shows no fault codes...

thanks for the reply, there are no faults showing and to be honest i've now noticed that it doesn't do it all the time.

Have you by any chance recorded the operating parameters of the engine while driving? Post the diagrams here and many things will be revealed!

sorry no I don't, however I did notice that one of the pencil coils on cylinder no 2 was loose and on further investigation I could see that the bolt holding the coil had been snapped, presumably by an over zealous technician, I managed to drill it out and re tapped the hole, the flat spot is still there only not as bad.

It's going in for a mini service next week, the garage has a reader so I'll get them to recheck.

mine has done this since i have owned it. it's ok when it warms up. apparently this is quite common.

I've replaced all of the pencil coils now, just incase it was one of them, but it still does it, I have found that if I change the way I drive when the engine is cold it doesn't do it !!

still if it's a quirk of the car I'll have to put up with it, apart from that I really do like this car.

Ask your dealer for a software-update, did the trick for me. They installed it after the dephaser pulley was replaced. Since then the powergap after driving 10-20 meters has gone. Had nothing to do with the dephaser, they told me, was a benefit of the the update. MPG has gone down a little, unfortunately.

I spoke to the Renault dealers regarding a software update, the person I spoke to seemed to have no knowledge of this and suggested that I was referring to a re code !! (79+vat)

I suppose if it cures the flat spot then it's worth it, it does however seem daft that every time I replace a part I have to have a re code.

My 54 plate 1.6 VVT petrol Megane has a simlar problem when the engine is cold, so only for a mile or so and as you say it drives fine once the engine has warmed up. When the engine is cold the idle is also erratic and almost (but not yet) stalls. I took it back to the dealer as I only bought the car 3 weeks ago and they confirmed a hesitation from cold and replaced the dephaser pulley, and camshaft sensor and said that they had cured it. I'm going to take it back to the garage tomorrow as the car is still hesitating when cold. Looking on this forum I wonder whether it might be the throttle body that needs cleaning? If it was the throttle body that needed cleaning, then wouldn't it carry on hesitating/flatspot when the engine warmed up too?
