Fitting Traction Control? Possible?

Postby LiamG » Sat Oct 10, 2009 10:48 am

Ok so traction control and anti understeer was an optional extra on most models IIRC. Is it something that is already on the car but just needs 'activating' somehow, like the cruise control or auto dim mirror etc? Because i would really like to have the traction control at least.

Probably not easily done, but I will stand corrected.

There are unused connectors on my car near all the brake callipers, but I suspect that they might be for wheel pressure sensors or some other gizmo's that I also don't have. There are unconnected ends of wiring looms all over the car (such as for heated seats) that are also not present.

Surely you would need other kit fitting? That said, I don't know how the models with traction control systems interacts with the ABS and whether they used the same detectors.

There is no mention of traction control in my Haynes manual, neither in the index or the wiring diagrams.

I would be very interested if you get it to work!

Best advice for Megane owners: sell it before it bankrupts you!

This isn’t possible, I have looked into it quite extensively. I have it on my motor (pain in the arse most of the time, so I removed the fuse) but I wanted to see if I could ‘activate’ it on my girlfriends meggy. Keep her safe and all that.

Too much extra hardware required that is not in place... If you had a few hundred pounds and the time to strip the car anything is possible mind you.

I must say i find the car much more attractive without traction control, the lack of it allows the odd roundabout/corner to be taken fully sideways with enough confidence, which makes me smile!

Drift-tastic! Shame about the traction control though. Thanks for the info.

BTW I did once accidentally do what you described in a long wheelbase transit van at a roundabout on the A38. Moral: don't start work at 11pm and finish at 4am.

Thanks for that, shame as it would be a nice addition to the car. At least it is something less to go wrong :?
