Volumetric sensors

Postby Jonault » Wed Mar 18, 2009 9:20 pm

I managed to break the left hand volumetric sensor whilst taking the parcel shelf out. Has anyone ever had to replace one of these and if so, how difficult is it?

If you break a sensor, the replacement comes as a set of two; one transmitter and one receiver and costs just over £20. The control box is located behind the carpet on the left-hand side in the boot (at least for the hatchback). The wires are annotated 'T' and 'R' so it's easy enough to find out which one you have broken by doing a continuity test between the plug and the broken wire. The Haynes manual is sadly lacking in any information about the alarm even though it is fitted to most models.

Hi,
Just came across this post so apologies if I'm way too late. Same thing happened to me- bought sensors from Renault-£22 inc VAT and took it to an auto sparkie who informed me they were cobra sensors and would have given me them for nothing!! Anyhow he put new sensors on for £25.
The last post is correct-does look easy to do yourself and I might have done so had I read this post prior to having them repaired! ;)

Onlyme,

If you have one of the sensors missing you should get it replaced as having only one means your alarm wont be functioning correctly(the volumetric alarm that is). These little sensors detect air movement inside the car.
As has been previously mentioned one acts as a transmitter the other a receiver.
Hope this helps ;)
