Hi all,
I have a 54 plate 1.9dci Megane Estate (120bhp) which, according to the trip computer, I'm only getting around 35mpg for. The figures for this model suggest I should be getting 52mpg. This is mostly around town with the occasional 200mile trip to London.
Should I take this to a garage for investigation?
Thanks

What's the quoted urban consumption? If you usually drive in urban conditions, and short journeys that involve stopping and starting, the mpg is always going to be worse than a combined figure.
You might see some improvments by making sure your tyres are inflated at least to the recomended pressure (a few psi above can give a few more % economy), use lower rolling resistance tyres, keep the car serviced with good oil. Use good diesel, and occasionally super diesel (eg Shell V-Power), as well as fuel treatments like Millers.
Driving with air-con on or windows/sunroof open will reduce the economy a bit, but the biggest factor is driving style: accelerate gently and avoid braking by letting the car slow itself as much as possible.
I used to have a 240 mile weekly commute, where in summer I got 60mpg. Now I do 1/4 of that across town and expect low 40's (although with some longer journeys over a tank I hope it'll be more like 50mpg).

Sounds about right to me driving, round town always gives terrible mpg. Dont worry to much about it just check the things Gav has said but still you will never see 52mpg. Ive never seen it in my dCi 120, i got it up to 50mpg once but just couldn't keep the driving like a Grandma on a Sunday morning style up for long, i like it get a move on.
Currently mines on 45mpg and thats mostly fast A road driving.

that sounds about right. mine only gets 55mpg + on my way to work (35 miles, few roundabouts/junctions, 40-50mph avg).

Hi,
I have an 06 sport tourer dci 130 and mine was about the same around town. It has now been remapped and a little better on mpg as well as being a fair bit quicker!! I have used millers treatment stuff on a full tank of Total exelium and mpg tends to be even better and again car feels quicker still! Infact i got my mate to time me from standstill to 60 and achived the following
1st 7.1 sec
2nd 7.8 sec
3rd 7.6 sec
I had a xsara vts before this (167 bhp same engine as 306 gti) and that got to 60 in about the same!!
