Where has being helpful gone???

Postby Starman » Mon Jun 29, 2009 8:48 pm

I refer to garages and dealers. Gone are the days when you could take your car to a garage and they'd have a look at it and at least give you an opinion on the problem. My local Renault dealer for example, I went to ask about my aircon not working. It could be anything, which I know, but £50 just to have a look, i.e. plug in a computer and check the error log! I went to an independent garage.... Ooo, sounds expensive... You'll have to book it in so we can "have a look" at it.... :banghead I've also noticed that people don't tend to take your word for anything nowadays either. ALL mine is or isn't doing is not working, in respect of when you press the aircon button, nothing starts! :sad I've had it regassed, which is when I discovered it wasn't working. Surely it doesn't take £50 worth of time to check a computer??? :-(

It's just so bl**dy frustrating when no-one seem willing to help. Lets face it, if people where more willing and helpful, they'd probably get the work anyway, wouldn't they???!!! :hm

That's just my opinion.... Would be interested to hear others....

Cheers,

J.

I totally agree. Especially with the Renault cars it's easy to see any problem with the computer... Well i guess they want to make money without working too much...
£50 sounds too expensive to me, it takes just a few minutes on the computer.

The problem is, when garages diagnose something replace it and the problem is still present, the garage then tells you that was part of the problem.
Thats why I find car clubs the best source, and more trust worthy

Totally agree service is a shambles. Only last week my wife caught in a rain shower had a scraping noise when using wipers. Not knowing what it was she stopped at volkswagon dealers(1st one she came to) in a panic as being a woman she thought the car might blow up :?
In there all she got was it would be about an hour before anyone could look at it and it would be £45 just to look
Still in a panic and sat waiting there she rang to tell me where she was, told her to go look at the wipers and if one was ripped get out of there. Sure enough she checked it brought it home and i changed the ripped wiper.
Now if some lazy git had just taken it upon himself to spend 60 seconds looking at her car they'd have discovered the problem then spent 2-3minutes fitting new blades, made some money and had my wife singing their praises to friends and colleagues. God i was fuming to say the least.

On the flip side i'm an NVQ examiner and was speaking to a client last week(works in a petrol station) about going the extra mile when giving good customer service and they told me up till a few weeks ago if someone came in that had put wrong fuel in they would help push the car off the forecourt then ring breakdown if customer had it or local garage to come out. The company they work for have now said they can't do this 1 health+safety pushing cars! 2 not to use company phone for customer use!!! unbelievable.
