Color number / name

Postby ims » Tue Jun 16, 2009 9:24 pm

Hi All,

Someone scratched doors in my Megane (using key or something like that) :( Could you tell me where exactly I can find paint color number/name? I will go to Halfords and maybe they will be able to mix exactly the color as I want try to fix these scratches by myself.

Thanks,
ims

you will be better off taking the car to a proper paint shop, if the car is a couple of years old it may have faded ever so slightly, may only be slight but could make it noticable, they will make the paint up to match.

The paint code is on a label in the door aperture. There are loads of codes for the different equipment but if you can imagine them in columns (they aren't quite), the paint code is in the extreme left column, third code from top. I'm not sure you'll have much luck with Halfords; on the two occasions I have tried (1 Mergane, 1 Citroen) the code has not been in their database. I agree that you might find it difficult to achieve an invsible repair (impossible if your paint is metallic or pearlescent). I've seen some examples of amateur scratch repairs and cannot imagine the scratch looked any worse than the attempt to disguise it.

There are many operators who do mobile scratch repairs reasonably cheaply (Halfords themselves partner with one). Most price per scratch and according to length so only you can judge whether this route might be better than a full-blown bodyshop.
