Radio problem (Dealer says it is normal)

Postby pippa » Tue May 12, 2009 7:01 am

Hi :)

I have just purchased a second hand Renault Megane II, it is a 2005 Dynamique 1.6 model. I have a problem with the radio.

It turns off after about 10 minutes, while driving the car. It beeps and then goes off. The dealer said he would look at that.

My question is about when turning the car off though. When opening the door, the aircon turns off etc, but the radio stays on. In my boyfriend's Renault it turns off too. (He has the sport).

I am going to the dealer this afternoon, but when I told him, he said it was normal, and shouldn't turn off when exiting the car. Is he right? OR should I ask them to look into it again?

Thank you very much!
Pippa

from what i can remember from owning my Megane, once the engine was stopped, everything stayed on, then as soon as the drivers door was opened, all of the electrics, and i mean all, lights, radio, A/C etc etc all switched off!

mine was also a 1.6 dynamique but on a 52 plate

hope this info helps!

my radio used to turn itself off after 10 mins or so whilst driving .

I would check the fuse in the glove box , the guy I got my car off must have thought fuses were expensive cos he had just wrapped a paperclip around the old blown fuse to make a connection.

You will find your radio will also turn itself off when exiting the car as mine never used to until i changed the fuse

Let us all know how you get on

Hi there all, thank you for your help!!
:)

I found a question on another forum with the EXACT thing wrong with someone else's car.

"Lights for the a/c and rear de-mist are not working.
Also the radio/ cd player a) doesn't switch off automatically when the drivers door is open and b) beeps then turns off whilst I drive. "

And the response was

"Check fuses - especially 15. If not that then check the earth, as may be tripping the electronics.""

So I am taking it to the Dealer on Thursday and can confidently tell him it is not supposed to stay on. And I think you are right about it being the fuse.

Very helpful here! Thank you. Will let you all know.
:D

I had this problem with my car today and changing fuze 15 works. The cigarrette lighter shorted out, blowing the radio fuze and preventing the air con from working. Weird

They replaced the fuse and it worked - this was long ago, sorry for not updating. I since have a new car :D
