Tinkering Noise from Door Pillar

Postby ElNino » Fri Feb 20, 2009 11:38 pm

Hi All!

I have just purchased a Megane 1.6 Dynamique 2005 from the main dealer this week. Everything is great really and loving the new car. But.....

I have a metallic 'tinkering' noise from the drivers side door pillar and becomes louder with higher speeds. I have taken the inside panels off to check behind them but still no joy.

Has anybody else experienced this? If so i would love to know what can be done. Its not a huge issue but on long journeys will become really annoying!!

Thanks is advance

N

This is our way to say welcome, isn't it FM2?

I was quite serious though. Would it be possible to describe the sound a bit better?

Hey there, if the sound is becoming louder at higher speeds its obviously something that seems to affected by wind resistance.....could be anything of just window seals. Door Mirror catching the wind or something like that.....theres nothing really light enough on the pillar to make such a disruptive noise....it could be coming from elsewhere (Heater Vents for example...a leaf or something caught up behind the dash, sucked in) happens mine all the time...

Really, what does it sound like? Can it be reproduced by knocking on panels, slamming doors or slapping on the seat?

Thanks nige,

AlexB, ive removed th panels on the door pillar and it can't really be reproduced :( it almost sounds like it may be coming from inside the chassis?

Like a say, its not a major one but it can become pretty annoying!

ElNino,

Sorry, I don't quite understand the word "tinkering". Does it sound as a tiny bell, high pitch, low pitch, any other sort of rattle? It is important as different parts produce different sounds. Have you tried to shake the exhaust pipe?

Are you are hearing some "ting-ting-ring-ting-ting-ring" sound?
Suspect its the plastic knocking on the "B" pillar metal somehow getting that "ting-ting" sound when driving.

I got it fix by sending it back to Renault svc ctr many times!

Seems like it is the black plastic fitting on the outside of "B" pillar, between front and rear doors frames.
They claimed that they have secured it tighter at first; then said new models in late YR2008 has some kind of bubble forms inside it. Mine Tourer is Mfg yr2007; so they fit that bubble form in at the last few attempts.
Then I got some "bubbling" sound at times; but definitely better than that sharp "ting-ting"; like a ice cream man next to your ears.

A few mths later, maybe due to rain & shine (expand/contract), that bubble sound seems disappeared by itself. Maybe it has gel into the fitting and got a better fit... 1 month ago, I heard it again vaguely for 2-3days and then after that its gone again by itself. Strange....

My first post on this forum :D
Have the same problem on my 2006 megane - more speed, more tinkering noise from the door :banghead
In my case, the problem was litle plastic square under door handle on the outside of the door (where the ir-senzors would be, if you have keyless entry). They become loose.
Try to knock on that plastic square - an if you hear the same tinkerig noise - that is that. Or even better - tape them temorary, take a ride - if noise dissapears you know what you shold fix.
Hope it helps

I always had a sort of a very quiet (about as the wrist watch bracelet rattle) ting-ting sound from around the passenger seat. It has high pitch and is independent from the gear and engine revs. I managed to reproduce it by slapping on the passenger seat; no other parts responded with a similar frequency. Believe me, I was very thorough. So, I managed to learn to live with it -- an analogy with married life comes to my mind...

well in respect the top shock mounts are just below the pillars....possible knocking from them, and resulting in the noise passing through metal bodyshell....into the pillar.
