Dephase pulley

Postby poratnir » Fri Feb 13, 2009 3:28 pm

Hello I just bought a Megane 2 2004 and i did test and evething was ok.
Few days ago i heard a sound that after going to the garage they told me it is the Pulley dephaser .
I did some reading and i found it is a common problem in th K4M engine.
Well the last owner did timing belt change.
Two questions:
1. Is it really can harm the engine?
2.Because it is a manufacturing bug is it on warranty even the car is out of it?
I need any information that you can give me about it please.
i read also about someone who demanded it to be done from the company.
please replay to my email :poratnir@gmail.com

Thanks a lot

thats not the dephaser...
the dephaser (only on 1.6 petrol) issue is a loud grinding noise for the first second on startup and probably followed by a stall. see common issues viewtopic.php?f=2&t=8855

Hi Dear

Regarding your fault it's commune in K4M engines and it's cover by warranty till 100,000 km by one condition ( keeping the maintenance history )

Best regards
