clock/outside temp doesnt work

hi i just bought a megane yesterday and i found that my clock/outside temp on the dash doesnt light up ive checked the fuses but there ok ive been told that it only works if i have the factory fitted radio in is this true and is there a way i can get it working without havening to buy a radio from the scrap yard ive put my own cd/radip in

Utter rubbish!!!
It works with or without a cd/cassette radio in original or after market.
Bet it was the garage that sold it said that because they couldn't fix it?
As to the fault i'm no help sorry

that is rubbish. with an aftermarket headunit all you get is the clock and temperature and the rest of the screen is blank. i wanted to whip it all out and put a flip out screen up there but i think the temperature feature is pretty helpful this time of year!

i'm quite suprised you even get the clock & temp with a different head unit, i would assume (as was with mark 1 megs) the whole thing would go off.
