car struggling to turn over when started

Hi I recently came back from a long drive from holiday and i noticed that when i stopped and then re-satrted the car on the way back it struggled to turn over. it did eventually start. this morning when i went to start the car it would not start. it tried and tried to tick over but would not catch. after about half an hour it started and is now starting every time. any suggestion as to why it is strugling to start, could it be the battery? the lights and electronics working fine although the fan and aircon not very powerful at all.
