Passenger window
Long story but here goes,
Well i went tonight to take my car off the road and put it into the drive, but when i started the engine it was struggling a bit at idle. I put it into reverse and started to pull off when the car completely cut out on me.
I restarted the car and again it stalled on me. I managed to get it to restart and reved it a bit so i put my drivers window down so i could listen to the engine to see if it sound strange.
I reversed the car down the drive and tried to put my passenger side window down so that i could hear the engine better as it would be next to a wall. The window didnt move.
I stopped the car at the bottom of the drive and tried again with no joy, switched the engine off, again nothing happened.
Then i locked the car on deadlocking and the car beeped like it would if you have come back to it and the alarm has been activated then turned itself off (if you know what i mean, bit hard to explain but a couple of beeps i think). Thought that was ranger strange and then opened the car and tried again, all you can hear is a clicking noise from inside the passenger each time you press the window button down.
Ive looked at all the fuses and they are all fine, and the drivers side window is fine so i thought it was a bit strange. Anyone got any ideas what it could be? Didnt manage to find anything on the forum and also nothing in the manual, any help would be appreciated
Cheers

Re: Passenger window
Hi GillyD88,
Regarding your window problem, it sounds like the infamous window regulator problem, try searching the forum for 'window regulator'
I hope this helps. If I recall the fix for a new window regulator is in the region of about £300 if I remember correctly, but I've also heard of it being fixed for free even after the warranty has expired, due to the fault being so common and depending on the age and mileage of your vehicle.

Hello, just fixed the broken window on my 2004 Scenic. It turned out to be the plastic clip that holds the window to the regulator, total cost of parts £3.05 !!
Just take the door trim off and look for plastic bits in the bottom of the door, regards Damian.

Re: Passenger window
if it is the regulator, have a look on ebay, loads of them on there around the £50 mark...but i would definitely take the panel off the door and look at it first....or if its under warranty, take it back

Re: Passenger window
Well my car is approaching the ripe old age of 5 so no longer under warranty but ive read that renault have been fixing them for free upto 5 years old as they are such a common fault. I hope so as £300 is a bit steep.
I am going to have my mechanic look at it, along with the engine problems ive been having and see what he says.
Im seriously thinking of getting rid of my beloved car as im starting to get a few problems and it will probably go down hill from here.

Re: Passenger window
well it is my window regulator, renault dealer quoted £304! contacted renault uk and they wont pay anything towards it as my car is 17months out of warranty. looks like im going to have to splash out, will be of ebay though! they can swivel if they think i will be paying £300 for a window thats a common fault. arr well, another problem to add to my list of problems to fix

Re: Passenger window
Yes, I also have had the passenger door window fail on me, Renault have refused to cover it as it's got over 100k on the clock because it has never been officially re-called as a problem. Mean while mine is in the shop and another two cars are having it done under warranty !!!!
I now ask every Megane owner I meet and virtually all have had one or two windows done under warranty and were told it was a one off problem and very unusual!!!!
I have had a hard time getting the door trim off, finally managed it and put a piece of wood inside to stop the window going down again. If it is possible to buy regulator on ebay, does anyone have information on how to replace this item? Bit worried about de-assembling it any further on my own...
Also, does everyones alarm occasionally just go off whilst they are sat in it before driving off ? Or is it just mine ?

Re: Passenger window
Yeh it took me and a mate ages to get the bluddy trim off, all those hidden clips and a screw right in the middle that is a pain to get to. You can but the regulators off ebay. Note though sometimes it is the motor that has bust and that will cost you extra but normally its just the regulator. Wouldn't have a clue how to fit the thing though, am advised it isnt that hard but dont quote me.
And in answer to your other question, no my alarm doesnt go off whilst driving and im sure it shouldnt, people with think uve knicked the car!
And on another note, now that i have put the trim back on i have another rattle to add to my list of rattles in the cabin. grrr

Re: Passenger window
Talking for germany: My Megane Tourer is built in Jan 2004 and has covered just above 60000 miles now. Had my passenger regulator done last month, was told it is about 300 Euros to change it off which, du to a used car warranty, I had to pay 133 EUR. As it is, no bill has arrived as yet, so I guess maybe they got Renault to cover the costs.
The error with mine was that when winding the window down during normal driving, a few seconds later it went up again in small steps and when it reached the top it kept clicking . I also opened it before putting it in for repair and checked the plugs but there was no dampness or corrosion or anything.
Another tip from me: Open all 4 doorplates and put some grease on all those rails the window slides up and down on....my drivers window started to go up and down slowly so I opened it and found that these rails where stone dry and dusty....now that I covered them in some (plastic friendly) grease it is going smooth again....perfect. So I did this to all four doors.
At the front it is sufficient to remove the speakers and the top part of the doorplate, at the back you have to open the whole plate. Strange thing was: The rear rails were greased alright, no need for action there, only the front ones were dry.
Needless to say, after the new regulator was fitted, I opened it again and also greased that one.
Here are a few pics of that operation:
