Battery keeps going flat - HELP!

Postby Karlnms » Mon Aug 11, 2008 7:17 pm

Hello folks,

Firstly I must say what a crock of Sh!te Renault megane's are. I will never have another after my list of never ending problems, but for now I must fix my latest problem so here it is, I hope you can all help!

The car is a manual 1.6vvt 2004 megane dynamique which has covered 29k miles.

The car battery keeps going flat when the car is left unused for a couple of days. It is ok if used daily, but cannot be left the weekend without going flat. It has had several new batteries, non cured this issue, the alternator is working correctly, and I have conducted a current drain test when the car is static by placing an ammeter across the earth terminals and the battery and the static drain is around 0.2amps which is reasonable to me. This has drawn me to conclude that the problem of draining the battery flat must be connected to the alarm system or the locking system. (i.e. once I lock up the car there must be a significant current draw, though all lights are definately off inside the car)

Does anyone have any ideas, I am desperate to get rid of this car, but need to fix the latest problem first. :(

Queer things, Renault's :?

At that miles I should think most things would be fine.... However, Meganes are well known to be like camels....they hold water, a lot of water!

I wonder if perhaps there is some water in your car?

Have you checked the boot light doesn't come on when locking up?

Get a (trusted) friend to lock the car with you in the boot to see if thelight stays on! Not exactly scientific, but it works for me ;)

Check all the doors by opening, then in a motion similar to opening and closing (but not closing), listen for sloshing.

Failing that, I would disconnect all the door lock motor plugs (that means either undoing the connections at the door, but be careful you don't squish it when closing the door) or undo the door cards and unplug at the motor itself. Then leave it a couple of days and see.

Failing that, shoot it :devil
