1.9 DCI wont start
Well here i go. Drove the car today fine. Came out from where i was working struggled to open the door but thought that was the usual hansfree not working. Went to start the car and nothing!! wipers made it to the top very slowly and all warning lights lit as normal. All i got then was the red immobiliser light flashing and rapid clicking from down by the glove box. This clicked for almost an hour before the breakdown guy arrived. He jumped it 1st time and told me to drive it home but looked like battery has gone or something draining it. Drive home i had abs light service light and auto headlights not working warning, also power steering feels very lumpy when moving slowly ie parking. Apart from that it ran ok!! Oh yeah radio has reset as has trip computer mpg etc. Got it home turned it off and won't restart exactly same. Anyone any ideas? Do batteries just die. Can't open the boot also Also how on earth do i lock the car? Tried remote and the little key in passenger door but it is clicking away on all doors as if trying to lock but won't. Any ideas much appreciated.

Re: 1.9 DCI wont start
Hi NIck!!
I own A 1.9 DCI went to start it the other morning like your self nothing happening.when i was pressing the start button the car was making a clicking sound and a message ignition fault was coming up on the display.I took a gamble and changed the battery (hey bingo problem solved!!) car started first time.Im not sure why/how it went down over night but it did .I was later told my somone that if theres a slight voltage drop on the battery it sends a bad signal to the imobrliser which inturn stops the car from starting, not sure if this is true though.
Hope this is of some help tp you iash101

Re: 1.9 DCI wont start
Thanks for reply got battery on charge but think i'll get new one in morning and touch wood that'll do the trick.
Problem i had when i lifted bonnet to get to battery the alarm went off
It went off for about half an hour stopping every so often then going off again. Didn't know how to stop it!! It even carried on after i took leads off battery. Presuming there is a simple fuse for it somewhere that'd shut it up or is it more complicated than that? Afterall it is supposed to deter people from stealing it!!

I had this exact same problem when my battery suddenly died! Same warning messages, same ABS light, same electric power steering feel. Renault knew the battery needed changing but tried to charge it overnight to see if it would work - it obviously didn't!

Re: 1.9 DCI wont start
Took battery off this morning and tested it. dead as a dodo the needle didn't twitch!!
Got it on charge now but hoping its the battery and not something draining it when car is off. Any advice on how and if i can check drain on the battery with a multimeter?
By the way a special thanks to Renault for making another simple job like removing the battery such a palaver. Think i'd rather change a headlight bulb

Hi Nick
Like i said in earlyer post mine just died over night as well. Not sure why as car was fine previous day,no slugishness when turning over or any other symtoms.I thought the same as you must be something drainig battery as it turns out the car has been fine ever since changing battery. Touch wood!!!! Not sure about testing with multi meter but someone told me that when you put the new battery on put the negetive lead on first then the positive on iff theres a spark when contact is made it may mean theres somthing shorting and draining the battery. As i said NOT sure if this is true perhaps some of the other guys/girls on forum could verify this or perhaps is utter B******S not really sure though.

Sorted. It was the battery. £57 for a new one from a local auto electricians. Motor factors were all between £55-£59. Rang Halfrauds £93
When i said how much he said it does come with a 3year warranty he went quiet when i said so do all others i'd rung
