Creeky cabin?

Postby Toosh » Sun Jun 22, 2008 9:02 pm

Anyone have any of those annoying rattles and creeks that appear every now and again as your driving along?

I have two and i just cant pin point where abouts in the car they are coming from, they are starting to annoy the sh1t out of me. The only way of silencing them is turning up the tunes :D

So if any of you have solved any of your rattles please could you tell me where it was and how you stopped it.

Im looking forward to you replies

One i have is the passenger seat belt. Took me ages to find what was causing it as it sounded like it was coming from glove box!! Turns out the metal buckle on the seat belt rattles against the door. :banghead

I had three sources of annoyment:

1) Left and right end of the dashboard. I have put two coins between the two ends of the dashboard and the cover of the front window pillars (is that the word?) You can push them in far enough so you cant see them anymore.

2) The height adjustment of my steering wheel. When I put the wheel forcefully up to the highest position it is fine and when I lower it it is fine. But it creeks when I put the wheel NOT QUITE as forcefully up.....

3) The cover on top of the instruments. Remove it (pulling quite strongly towards you) and use some silicone spray or sth like that to shut it up....

Now my cabin is has become quite quiet ;-)

Creeks? Rattles? I dunno what you are talking about?

On an unrelated matter, I have around 200 CDs to choose from in my car.

I've seen a thread on here somewhere about trimming the locating tabs on the centre part of the dash and using silicon grease to quieten it. Creaks from the centre section also seem to be dependent on the temperature and are noisier on hot sunny days.
