throttle body and cambelt

Postby nickbell69 » Tue May 27, 2008 1:49 pm

Just booked mine into garage for cambelt change and asked them if they could clean the throttle body whilst they had it. Guy in garage asked if i was having any problems with car, said i wasn't just wanted it cleaning to see if it had any affect on mpg. He told me they wouldn't touch it unless i was having running/starting probs as it'll make no difference. Anyone know if this is correct seem to remember several posts of people cleaning theirs and it like driving a new car!!Might have to clean it myself now as he wasn't having it at all.

To be honest its a garage i've used before and had good experience with so quite happy to use for cambelt(price was reasonable too) just wondered what other people thought of throttle body. Very wierd for garage to turn down work though!!!!

maybe you should suggest some hot starting problems...but say you dont want to pay for a diagnostic as throttle body im sure doesnt register on one....but sounds like he is refusing altogether so another good independent should oblige...unless you are a mechanic i just think meganes are too temperemental to start working on yourself...im sure there was apost on here recently about a guy who cleaned it himself and then pretty soon after the engine management light came on and caused a whole other load of bother for him....
