Megane -03 door sensors.

Postby zt3fan » Wed May 14, 2008 9:53 am

Hi, im from Sweden so my english isn't that good, be indulgent. :pc

I bought a Megane II 1,6 -03 about 2 week ago and i love it. After a while i noticed the sensors within the door handles and i wondered that they where good for. I went to the computer and I started to google it. I found out that its a sensor that notices when you open the door and unlockes it if the key card is close to the car. I also noticed that its only the -04 cars that has this function (?). My quiestion is: Why does my -03 megane II have these sensors if i cant use them and is it possible to upgrade the software in the car so that the sensors works?

PS: (I don't know a sh*t about cars. My facts i got of the internet might be wrong, if so, please correct me) ;-)

Peace :!:

Have you tried to open the door without unlocking with the card first? I think you have to pull to unlock, then pull again to open the door. That would let you know if you had working "handsfree" entry. I don't have it, and don't mind, especially after reading about how many times they can go faulty...

Ah, you have to pull twice? Ill try that when i get home. I tried it once and pulled the door one time, shouldnt i hear the car unlocking when pulling the door the first time? Oh, well, ill try it when i get home and post if it works or not.

To check if you have handsfree - go to the car with the card in your pocket, place your hand between the door and the handle - don't pull on it! As soon as the sensor notices your hand it will unlock (if you have handsfree). A common misconception is that you need to pull the handle - this is only needed when you have left the car locked for 3 -4 days ie: not driven it.

Hope this helps!

I tryed pulling the handle yesterday and the door didnt open. Ill try just holding the handle next time. If this dosnt work, why are the sensors there? They must be there for a reason? =)

I have these sensors too. Yet handsfree dosnt seem to work. My only guess is that the sensors are there as standard and the handsfree system itself an optional extra. Also if anyone has any idea on how to look up prices for extras to be installed please link it. 8)

Isn't it possible that you just have to upgrade the software in the car for it to work?
My friend who has a Citroen C3 -02 upgraded his databox after some electric problems and suddenly had a saftey belt reminder which he havent had earlier.

No, if fitted, handsfree means you have different handles (which have a switch on the outside and a remote inside) and a sensor behind the tinted plastic panel. If not fitted, that tinted plastic panel is not filled with the sensor.

I love mine, despite not working properly. At worst, when it breaks, you just have it on the driver's door (with a double pull of the handle) and it still should start the car once inside, so still better than not fitted.

I believe the sensor on the car side of the handles are just there as standard its on the outside of the handle thats usually different if keyless is fitted this has a button about the size of a 10 pence coin which you push to lock the car. Easiest way to tell is get in the car do not put the card into the slot and try and start the car. If it starts its keyless if not then its not or the sensor is bust!!!! ;-)

I am 95% sure there's nothing there, just the external panel, I am basing this on the fact that you can get door handle lighting kits but only if you don't have handsfree - since it shines through the blanking plate.
