Megane 1.5dci Fuel leak

Postby mws » Wed May 07, 2008 4:07 pm

Hi all,

My Megane has got a fuel leak in the engine bay. I spotted one of the injector leak off pipes leaking so replaced the hole lot (as renault don't supply the 2" length of pipe on its own). I spent all last night cleaning off the engine bay with 2 tins of brake & clutch cleaner, and air blower to get rid of any diesel left.

This morning i washed the car (then a bird poo'd on it so i had to do the bonnet again! )

I drove the car about 10 miles and could smell diesel again. It appears to be coming from the sensor on the regulator that supplys the injectors. So onto Renault in Preston and that'll be £181.00 PLUS VAT please :rock as we can't get the sensor seperatly

I had a look around at the unit, and wrote down the serial numbers and manufacture "Delphi". Did a couple of different searches on Google to see where i could get one from and found a place in Darwen Called "Darwen Diesels" who deal with Delphi. The price £138.90 plus vat. (at trade) So thats a £40 saving pre vat on the part :-) :-) And it'll be in stock tomorrow morning!!

Something similar happened to me. I smelt diesel in the car and took it to Renault dealer. After checking the car they said I wasn't allowed to drive until it was fixed since it could be dangerous. They replaced the pipes and the starter. 3 hour job, luckily under warranty. I got to chill with a Twingo for the day but all is well now.

There is some kind of recall on the 1.5dCi for a fuel leak - search the forum for a topic. I had it happen in February, and got the return pipe and starter motor replaced. From the original post, it might not be the same issue at all, especially since it's an older car/engine

I spoke to my local dealership to find out if my car was outstanding any recall's and i also checked on "my Renault" on their website.

I think the recall in question is for the newer facelifted cars.

I've just been to pick the new part up,

Dealer Price RRP: £212.93 ish Inc Vat. With some trade discount it came to about £191.63 inc vat.

Darwen Diesels price £163.21 Inc Vat. (at trade)

And its the exact same part made by Delphi. :D

I'm going to get it fitted tonight.

New regulator fitted, cleaned off and running fine. Not as big a job as i first thought.

Just really important to keep the injector pipes and everything clean.

:D

Do you have some inside information on where to service your car for cheap?
