my 53 playe 1.4 is getting 30.9MPG over the last 2000 miles (done 27000 total) i think thats pretty low?
Anyone got any suggestions for what to look for, just got it serviced on saturday, so dont really know what to check/change.
As mentioned before is there anything you think i could check for to see if the rear brakes are binding? I do get tonnes of brake dust on the rear alloys so could that be a sign? I do mostly town driving, not too spirited, not to slow either tho

I've been using BP Ultimate Diesel for about a couple of tank-fulls now in my 1.9 DCi 05 plate Megane CC and over a 80% Urban 20% Motorway cycle I have got 39.1 MPG from the current tank. That's 450+ miles before the Fuel Light came on. I have a pretty heavy foot though and like to accelerate and brake the nuts off her... hence just having had to coin out £850 for new pads and discs all round and £150 for two new front tyres... yes, I am the annoying cow who likes to pull a little wheel-spin in a Diesel sometimes.

Best I have had is a motorway run of around 44 MPG at an average of 65 MPH.

If you jack the back wheels up and give them a spin with the h/brake off you should be able to see if they're binding. If they are, I would have a word with the garage that serviced your car and ask them why they didn't notice this. What else have they missed?
Check that your tyre pressures are right as this can affect mpg.

Its actually easy to do, as jonault says remove the rear wheels. I changed the pads all round found that the handbrake cable needed freeing and greasing the pivot joint made a big differnce. The hardest part of all was twisting the bloody piston back in, anyone who changed pads before will know what I mean! You have to free it then twist and push at the same time. Its difficult but achievable without the special expensive tool!! Just takes a bit time and sore hands afterwards!! You should also be able to feel the heat on the wheels after a run, mine are very cool running now they have been serviced with hammer and grease!

Thanks guys, i'll do that soon, my MOT is this weekend, so prob beset to have a look before then.

Changed my sparkplugs the other day, i think the previous owners must have hated the poor thing as they looked like the original ones (53 plate but only done 27000 miles) and now im getting 33mpg! which is startin to sound a bit better!

Also just FYI i rang my local renault (who are strangely nice) and they said that their acceptable minimum for my engine is 30mpg!

Apparently so... I guess that when I am on my own in the car (about 99% of the time) I don't mind accelerating and braking relatively sharply.

Apparently so... I guess that when I am on my own in the car (about 99% of the time) I don't mind accelerating and braking relatively sharply. On the plus side, new pads and discs did solve the reverse braking squeal!

You must join me on the Autobahn one day. I have seen 120mph on the spedo before, but there is not much difference between 80 and 120mph. The only problem is that no mater how fast you drive there is always someone who is going to over take you. I had the honour of be-in over taken by something red. But it passed me like lightning so I guess I will never know what it was. Maybe one of the legends of the Autobahn (Ferrari).

Sounds about right. My 04 Petrol 1.6 VVTi gave about 29mpg... one of the reasons I now drive a 1.9 DCi.

It costs me £50 a week on petrol, which is filling it to the top. I only drive to work and back in it and here an there of a night time and weekend Is anyone else spending this much?

I fill up between £55 and £60 with diesel

Luckily I only need two tanks a month.

actually it takes me to work, to the pool, for drives on weekends and to my friends place once a month 110 mile trip.

I have been driving extrememly careful and doing a mix of both motorway and town driving - keeping the revs about 1,200-1,400 where possible

and im getting an amazing 41.5mpg !! usually get around 35-36 as have heavy right foot

Ive got an 06 plate 1.6 and my mpg is 28.2. This cant be right... can it?

mine's a 56 1.6 dym and im on 40.1 so sounds a bit off to me.
