Rear Speaker Install??

Postby Awoods » Wed Apr 09, 2008 9:43 pm

I have a 2005 3 door Megane and want to replace the rear speakers as they are blown. I've just replaced the fronts which were relativley easy but have no idea how to access the rear one's!!

Does anybody have any idea's on how to get to the rear speakers on the 3 door model

Much appreciated

Try looking through the ICE section as there are many people who have replaced the standard speakers for something a little more tasty.

What speakers have you put in the front?

Pioneer do some very good custom fit speakers, fitting others could potential land you with water ingress :(

I have replaced the rear ones in mine and it was not a completely trivial task...
The correct size speakers are important, really deep ones wont fit.

Next removing the panels....

Take out the rear seats and tip the backs down, you should see two holes in the panel these have torx T20 (i think thats the size) Screws in them, remove these, next remove the parcel shelf and remove both Torx screws from each of the supports (one will not come away completely as it has the boot light).

If you look at the bottom of the front seatbelts you will see that the bar at the bottom goes thru the panel, i didnt remove this, but it would me much easier if you did, if you dont, the panel only moves a little bit and it is quite a tight squeeze.

The panel itself after this is held on only with clips, when i removed mine, some of them broke, but they were only 50p each to replace from the renault dealer! I have the part number for these somewhere if you do the same. It does take some bravery and some force to get it off, but it will come.

Once you have it off, the speakers are held on using more torx screws, same size as the rest, basically the same as the front.

If you are replacing with non renault speakers you should also make sure you have the correct spades to crimp onto the wires as you will have to snip off the renault plug. And also, when fitting new speakers, with 4 screw holes, the bottom one will push against some of the supports on the panel, i just pushed down while screwing the speaker on, but you might want to just hacksaw off the offending bit on the speaker.

In classic haynes tradition, refitting is the reverse of removal! (but when pushing it back on, pay attention to the area just below the front seatbelt, as you may have to mess about with the soft plastic clip in there to get it to sit correct.)

I realise this is a very vague and hastily typed out guide, but i would be happy to elaborate on any particular section you are wondering about, and bear in mind, i had NO REAR AIRBAGS in the side.

Tip: Get good speakers for the rear, as once you do this you will never ever want to do it again

HI all

When i replaced mine I just used the speaker wires, took the oppertunity to fit 6x9 in the parcel shelf, miles better than any behind the panel. and turns the boot space in to a bass cab, thinking of getting a sub next.

try these guys great prices and delivery was very quick. https://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk

Do you need to take off the side panel to get to the speaker wire?

yeh u need to remove the side panel or "bend" it out a bit to access the speaker and thus the wire

There are connectors that clip into the renault plug and have the standard speaker spades - makes it so much easier than crimping etc
