03' 1.5 DCi expression

bought my partner a 1.5 DCi meggie about 3 months ago.. all has been fine until boxing day..

The alternator belt came off on the motorway and at night.. Managed to get it home, but only just.

Problem is this.. The pulley on the alternator completely sheared off . Im being quoted £181 + VAT for new alternator as I am told the pulley comes as part of the alternator.. £371 to supply and fit (inc belt) ... anyone know if this is deffo the case!!!!

anyone done an oil change on a 1.5 DCi..??? is it easy or am I dreaming

Sorry you haven't had an answer. Normally the tekkies (I'm not) would have given their advice by return but I think they're all away. Anyway all the best for 2008 but sorry this is not a good start for the New Year.

is this price from renault dealer?. it`s right to say that the pulley is part of the alternator and would be bought as a complete unit,the price for parts would seem about right (although expensive),but nearly £200 labour inc. belt seems a bit steep.
it may be worth pricing up the alt+belt from a motor factors such as andrew page etc,then getting a price for fitting at a reputable independant garage, you`ve nothing to lose by making a few calls + may save a good few quid.

I would try a motor factors, they quite often do recon units, you then return your old one to them makes it cheaper, fitting an alternator is fairly easy, usually couple of connections, undo couple of bolts, one of which adjausts the tension of the belt, see haynes manual for how much tension you need..
