Does your mirror have a tiny hole in it facing the window? Its an Electrochrome mirror if it does like mine. Sounds like the motor is screwed up for some reason, you should never hear it. Try putting your finger over the hole then shinning a torch at it, it should turn a blue tint.
Back from Zafira hell....... Good to be home. Number 3 scenic bought and "im lovin it"

to be honest, I doubt many other people have either. I only know of the sensor for the wipers and the electrochrome *thing* is in there.
It could be that?
On the contrary, my experience indicates that its a common problem across the Renault range (esp. the Laguna II)
Inside the rearview mirror housing is a small motor/sensor combo.
When the ignition is on, the motor operates sucking in air for the sensor to analyze (temperature and humidity conditions inside the cabin) so that the A/C unit can perform its job properly.
Of course a moving part is always prone to failure.

Some people have had success shutting it up by removing it and blasting the unit with pressurized air, thereby cleaning it...
Keep in mind that the buzzing you hear could also be caused by a flaky rearview mirror housing cover that rattles as the motor inside operates - try this: while you hear the buzzing try pressing the plastics of the rear view mirror assembly, if the noise changes then thats the problem...
thank you guys for your help, the motor is inside the mirror housing not the mirror its-self, if i slide down the cover attached to the windscreen under the mirror the motor is in there, it is about 1" long, 2 wires coming from it & has 2 screw securing it in place, it has a tiny gap allway around it & i can see the fins inside revolving, if i insert a very tiny screwdriver to stop the fins moving the buzzing stops? i am sure the motor has seen out its days i am just trying to find out what it is for? even renault say its for climate control, but giving themmy reg etc they say my car has no climate control & does not have this motor fitted???? i was looking at the motor with my own eyes as the parts dept told me this??? doh'
hey thanks again, any more info appreciated.

It is not supposed to be their without the climate control system. Is it possible tha the car was rebuilt and parts came from different donors?
If the cabin computer does not support climate, then you can try disconnecting this motor. Can you see the connector?
All I can say is based on the docs pointed at in my message in Links section.
