Camshaft Dephaser & Toxic Filter System Warning Light

Postby Steven Wilson » Sun Dec 02, 2007 4:32 pm

I drive the Megane 1.6 16v VVT - 04 plate

1) Is there a connection between the camshaft dephaser and toxic filter system problem?

2) The car has had 4 dephaser on it from new. I started hearing it again at about 36k miles but was told by the local dealer they couldn't find the fault. I am now near 40k miles and I am hearing the noise more and more (probably because of the cold). So, my question is - Is this normal for the dephaser to fail 4 times from new at 36k - 40k miles?

Any advice would be greatfully welcomed.

Toxic fume filter warnings are usually down to failed coil packs

4 Dephasers

1 or 2 failures I heard of but not 4. Unless they have been fitted incorrectly as there is a set proceedure that must be followed.
There is a test (I believe) that can be used to check the dephaser operation. I'm sure Webcode posted about this a long time ago.

I think you need to be asking some very serious question of your dealer and Renault UK CS
