In the Garage today Dephaser replacement

Postby RussMarc » Mon Jun 25, 2007 10:59 am

My Magane 1.6 vvt is in the Garage having the Dephaser replaced under warrantee. Just a quick question, Can this part be replaced whilst the engine is "in situ" or does the engine have to come out?

Also does anyone know how long it takes to replace the offending camshaft pulley?

Thanks

Not too sure, I think its an 8 hour job or something? Because the dephaser pulley is part of the VVT system, I do know the cambelt has to come off to change it though, so you effectively are getting your cambelt changed for a new one too!

Hi Phil,

"8 Hours" guess I'm walking home tonight then, sounds like replacing one of these Dephaser things is a big job.

Is changing the cam belt a normal thing the do automatically when they replace the pulley?

They should change it automatically if they follow the instructions from Renault; Whenever a cambelt is removed, the old one must never be refitted but systematically replaced with a new one!

The same goes for the ancillaries belt, too.
