Service anomaly

This is a tricky one to try to explain. I have recently taken delivery of a new Megane CC 1.9dCi 130 non-fap (I think) Dymanique. I was told when I ordered the car that the service intervals were 12000 miles / 1 year. I therefore presume it is non-fap. However, the “DISTANCE TO NEXT SERVICE” message is counting back from 18000 miles. Does anyone have any ideas as to why the display isn’t counting down from the correct 12000 miles? Also, to make it more complicated, the distance to next service message doesn’t exactly correspond with my total mileage. When I covered 1000 miles exactly, the display read “DISTANCE TO NEXT SERVICE 17006 MILES” It appears to me that my car had a service at 6 miles and the next service interval was reset to 18000 miles! My previous two Renaults’ service message reminder corresponded exactly to the total mileage readout when they were new. Any help would be appreciated.

They probably reset it after delivery. If your intervals should be 12K just take it to your dealer and complain. They can then change it for you.

If you give them the VIN number they'll be able to tell you whether or not it is FAP for certain, that way they can ensure that your service counter is set / reset correctly.

OK. Thanks for your help. Seems like other people one here have had problems figuring out if their car is has a FAP or not. I'd actually rather not have one. Here's hoping!

I took my car to have the service interval counter reset. They have reset it to 9000 miles service intervals. I was sure I din't have a FAP - but they said I do. Called Renault Customer Service and gave them my VIN number and they said I don't have a FAP! Annoying. Should I leave it as it is and deal with it when my car says it need a service?

It's not the first time Reanult UK have given contradicting info compared to a dealer, or should this be the other way around

I would go back to your dealer and get them to show you the FAP on your car so that you know it is FAP fitted.

If it's not and they have reset your service interval to 9000 miles you will be paying much more for your servicing than you need to. None FAP engines only need servicing every 12000 miles and the oil required for a FAP fitted engine is more expensive.

mine is 07 privilege cc and my service is 18K or every year, so yet another story of service intervals

Petrol Engined Meganes
18000 or 1 year whichever comes first.

None FAP Diesel Engined Meganes
12000 or 1 year whichever comes first

*FAP fitted Diesel Engined Meganes*
9000 or 1 year which ever comes first
*5W30 or 0W30 ACEA C3 Low SAPS oil must be used*

However Renault are reportedly extending servicing intervals on the new Laguna range. This will probably filter through to the rest of the range eventually.

GM make sure you get your service intervals sorted out as this could affect your warranty.

I have a 56 1.6 petrol which has all of a sudden switched from the 18,000 miles countdown to service due

I have only done 11700. Is it due for a service or not?

ours started with "change oil soon" about 3 months before it was due for the 1st service.I checked with my garage they said that would be because the engine has probably been built around that time!

I thought the newer cars service intervals changed from 18000 to 12000 or 1 year whatever comes first

As its 18,000 or 1 year, whichever comes first, I suspect your car is now 11 months old (or 11 months since the service indicator was last reset, which could have been in the factory when it was first made rather than when you picked it up) Whatever the miles left when it gets to 1 month before the service is due it will change to "service due" or "change oil soon"
