Replacing Update List stereo in 2005 Megane
Hi,
I'm new to updating ICE but willing to try! I would like to replace the standard CD player in my 2005 (55) Megane (Update List) with an MP3 stereo such as the Sony GT610U which is a reasonable cost at around £100.
I can get the Fascia and ISO adaptors for around a tenner each, but then asking where to get the steering control adaptor from results in confusion when I ask local factors!
Is there an easy way I can do this? I don't really care whether the in dash display works or not - but I would like to retain the steering controls.

great, did you purchase this direct from Renault?if so,how much did it cost?I am sure there has been a post before about TunePoint before, but nobody did manage to source it

Current Car:BMW Z4 2.5 SE 04,Renault Clio Dynamique S 1.2 TCE 58 ;Previous Car:Megane II Sports Hatch 55 Reg Ottoman Blue 1.6 VVT

I purchased it from Renault dealer by P/N because they didn't know anything about it.
Price was approx. £128 at 1. Jun 2007.
You have right, there is(was?) a topic about it and it was start point when I began search about it. Just because I wanted something what can be connected as CD changer, can be controlled as CD changer and can playing Ogg Vorbis format (or at least MP3 format). And TunePoint can do it perfectly.

Update list audio
This is getting expensive!
I have an older Panasonic MP3 player which I might use instead and see how I manage without the steering controls - its a compromise really.
I've looked and queried the major online ICE resellers and they either didn't reply or offered conflicting answers.
Surely there is a simple (and cheap!) way to use the steering controls with a standard Sony/Pioneer etc unit without resorting to various boxes of tricks to display the minimal information on the dash display? Some of the adaptors I've seen for £100+ simply put the stereo manufacturer name on the display - wow!
When I bought the car I foolishly thought I would need a fascia adaptor, a Sony remote interface and a Renault remote interface - guessing about £50 for the three - how wrong I was!
If I'm spending £200 plus on installing a Sony HU - I'm wondering whether its easier to install the Renault MP3 compatible unit which is around the same price - has anyone any experience of these units?

Connects2
You don't happen to have the part numbers for the Connects2 items do you?
I spend quite a bit of time in the car and miss the convenience of my old MP3 compatible stereo!

I don't have it but from top of my head, can say it was ARNIPOD003.but to be on the safe side, just visit connects2.com and enter your reg number,it gives you the compatible parts for your car.if still not sure, just drop them an email they are very quick in getting back to you.
hope this helps.
update:the TunePoint by renault is listed in their brochures with the RRP of £175.

Sorted!
Well, thanks for all the info folks but I've gone for the cheap and easy solution.
With a bit of research (especially on these forums) I've found a Sony CDX-GT30RN unit on Ebay for £60 (new). Fitted it in 5 minutes, works a treat and uses the display and the steering stalk. I'd recommend it to anyone! Almost matches the dash board as well, with a decent sound quality and 3.5mm Aux in jack.
What a con though - this Sony unit was obviously manufactured with Renaults in mind and Renault sell it for £180+, every other ICE seller is knocking them out at £100 or less!

Hi,
I have just bought an '05 reg Sport Tourer and it has the standard cd/radio, which I think needs an update! Did the Sony you bought just slot straight in and use the existing connections or did you need a set of wiring converters, etc?
Also are you still using the standard speakers, and if so did the Sony unit improve the sound at all?
Thanks.

Sony
Yes, the CDX-GT30RN (must have the 'RN') slots straight in with no wiring adaptors. You will need the fascia adaptor though.
The ISO leads from the Update List stereo plug straight in, and the mini-ISO (yellow) connects directly into the back of the Sony as well. There is also a connector for a CD Changer!
This unit must have designed for Update List Renaults as it was perfect swap - even the head unit illumination matches the dash!
As for sound quality, I left the standard speakers in and the sound was better - you have various options to fiddle with, but I'm pretty happy with mine (and I listen to heavy metal!)
I might upgrade the speakers in due time though, but I was just chuffed to get a good MP3 player with steering controls for £65!
