I-sotec i-soamp-4

Postby renier » Sun Jun 10, 2007 8:59 am

I came across this amplifier system from German company I-sotec. It has been on the market since a few years.

It is a 4 channel 65 watt amplifier unit, directly connected to the ISO connectors for it's power, input and speaker output. No need to connect it directly to the battery as it's power consumption is very low. Should be able to connect it in 15 minutes. It is so small it can be placed under the seat.

I've read a lot of feedback from enthousiastic German users on forums and it has been rated "sehr empfehlenswert" from Autohifi magazin.

Anybody here experience with it? :D

Following two articles are unfortunately in German but give a very good idea how it is installed (in a VW :D ) with a lot of pictures:

Blaupunkt will also introduce a similar amplifier around august/september this year:

Weel looking at the size of the thing and given that its only 15A I dont think it will produce alot of power.

Even it id does, you would pop the standard speakers....co they are naaaaaffff!! lol

oher then that....seem like a very good Idea.....but I dont think you could get larger amps as the power drain will be too much

I wouldn't use it as it connects to the ISO connectors, much rather a power source direct from the battery.

It's designed to be used to connect to the ISO power, so that you do not have the work of having to install a power cable to the battery.

As the Blaupunkt PnP amplifier, it is so efficient that it will convert most of the consumed power into music, rather than into heat with conventional amplifiers (taken from Blaupunkt website).

I think it's a great plus in installation not having to mess around with power cables to the battery. :D

4X65 watts is more than enough for me, the standard Renault radio only has 4X15 watts  I don't need boom-boom installation :) !

That's why I already replaced the standard speakers with proper ones from Pioneer; TS-Q131C in the front and TS-E1396 in the back. They are very well up to the job of handling more power and deserve more than they get now 8)

That's my idea as well, I think it's a great device in it's simplicity (although I haven't heard it yet...)! It is designed to be used with the standard OE ISO power supply, with typical 15 Amp fuse.

Thing is, it states - as with all amps to boost their sales

4 x 65w
but where did they get this figure from?

figures are achieved at maximum output
this will be at 14.4 V
and it will be at its peak

realy you are looking at 4 x 20wrms (if i may say so!!! being the generous person i am)

and we will never hit 14.4V and keep it constant, more likly from 12 - 13V

Ehm, max 15A at 14.4V .... someone already compute which is maximum theoretical output peak power amplifier with this parameters?

Amplifiers class B ("worst" but cheapest class) with this parameters can do approx. 37W peak power per channel.
Class AB can do approx. 32W peak power per channel.
Class A can do approx. 20W peak power per channel (this class is best for reproduction, but not often used in cars).
(There are also other "sub-class" but their high efficiency is payed by worse quality).

Look that all computed output power is not constant, but only peak. And theoretical, not real. Real depending on their efficiency which will be lower.

Sorry, but this amplifier cannot:
  1. Generate 65W peak power per channel
  2. Consume max 15A current
(Answer "a" is most probably - It is often occurrence).
I think, if this amplifier is probably at class B (maybe AB, but I don't think it), its peak power in car will be at perfect terms about 25W per channel (lesser is more probable).

(One Czech phrase says: "Z hovna bič neupleteš" which can be translated as "You can't make whip from a sh*t" - I think that perfectly pass for this amplifier)

Ok, thanks for the replies. Gues the I-sotec isn't a good option then, given it's price of > €200,-

But what about the Blaupunkt THA 475 PnP then? Is it the same story? A company like Blaupunkt cannot affort it to put something on the market that doesn't deliver what it is said to do and thereby damaging their reputation, is it?

The Blaupunkt kit looks excellent, can'#t find anywhere in the UK with stock. If you find some let me know :D

if you change your head unit to a decent one you'd nearly acheive 4 x 65w, there all like 4x50w now anyway.

I think the idea behind the ISOamp is that you get greater sound from your sandasrd system and speakers without the hassle of a complex install.

simplicity at its best.

Yeah peak power, the Blaupunkt is 4 x 75W RMS, or 4 x 150W Peak :D

I changed my Renault HU to a Pioneer HU and changed it right back again to the Renault as I did not like it :)

:-D
I have still Becker Mexico 4337 from my previous car, but I never put it in Meggie because ... because Renault HU simply perfectly pass into interior of Megane :-).
Can you imagine how will look Megane's "silver" board when will contain this?:
Image
When it was in R19, it was almost hidden because R19 board was similar. But in Megane ...
Maybe by time, when I will do something with audio. Now, when car remaining under warranty, I have still everything in original state (except speakers - I changed them to TS-Q131C). But I am not sure, original HU really look as integral part of board and I like this look.

BTW.: ICEMAN, "Feel the Hertz through the Audi son!!" ... "Audi[space]son"? Is it mistake or intention?

Eh, end of OT :-)
